1. Introduction
The JIKONG BMS (Battery Management System) JK-BD6A24S12PC is an intelligent active balancing protection board designed for large-capacity series lithium battery packs. It supports 8S-24S configurations for Li-ion, LiFePo4, and LTO battery types.
This BMS provides comprehensive battery management, including voltage acquisition, high-current active balancing, overcharge, over-discharge, overcurrent, and over-temperature protection. It also features a coulomb meter, Bluetooth communication, and optional GPS remote functions.
The protection board utilizes energy transfer active balancing technology, capable of achieving a continuous balance current of up to 0.6A. This technology ensures battery consistency, extends battery life, and delays aging by transferring energy from higher-voltage cells to lower-voltage cells with minimal loss.
A mobile application (APP) is available for Android and iOS systems, allowing users to monitor battery status, modify parameters, and control charge/discharge switches via Bluetooth. 6. Operation
6.1. Device Activation
Before powering on the BMS, ensure all balance cables are properly connected and the P- and B- terminals are correctly wired. Verify that the BMS is securely fixed to the battery pack. Incorrect connections can lead to malfunctions or damage.
The BMS does not have a physical power switch. It activates in charging mode: connect a charger with a voltage 2V higher than the battery voltage to power on the BMS. Alternatively, if an external display and button are connected, the device can be activated by pressing the button.
6.2. Mobile APP and PC Software
The JIKONG BMS can be monitored and configured via a mobile APP (Android/iOS) or PC software. These interfaces allow you to view real-time battery data, adjust protection parameters, and control various functions.
To download the mobile APP, scan the QR code below:
The PC software also allows setting inverter communication protocols:
6.3. Active Equalization
The active balancing feature transfers energy from cells with higher voltage to those with lower voltage. Users can set the balance trigger voltage difference (in mV) via the APP. Balancing automatically starts when the voltage difference between any two cells exceeds the set value and stops when it falls below the set value. The default balance current is 0.6A. It is recommended that the balance current does not exceed 0.2C of the battery capacity. If not needed, the balancing function can be turned off in the APP.
6.4. Communication Functions (CAN/RS485)
The BMS supports optional CAN and RS485 communication. Users can select the desired communication mode via the APP's BMS control page. The address and communication protocol can be configured according to specific requirements and scenarios. Refer to the Jikong Protection Board communication protocol document for details.
6.5. Heating Function (Optional)
The optional heating function uses a resistance heater or heating film to warm the battery at low temperatures, preventing performance degradation due to reduced battery activity. The designed heating current is 10A. Users can switch this function on/off via the APP. It is recommended to install a temperature control switch (45°C to 65°C normally closed type) in series with the heating circuit as a secondary protection measure.
6.6. Alarm Function (Optional)
The optional alarm function provides external alerts when the BMS detects safety risks such as over-temperature, overcharge, or over-discharge.
6.7. Battery Parallel Function (Optional)
This optional function supports parallel connection of battery packs, suitable for energy storage applications. It requires synchronous use with parallel modules and disabling the 'charging current limiting' function in the APP.
6.8. ACC Detection Function (Optional)
The optional ACC detection function enables discharge. It can be activated by applying a voltage between ACC+ and ACC- (12V-70V) or by directly short-circuiting ACC+ and ACC-. A charger detection function is also reserved for C_detect+ and C_detect- interfaces to enable charging.
6.9. Intelligent Sleep
The intelligent sleep function is standard and can be enabled/disabled via the APP. Its purpose is to reduce the BMS's self-consumption by shutting down the protection board when it's in standby (charging/discharging current less than 1A for 26 consecutive hours). The BMS can be reactivated by pressing a button or connecting a charger.
7. Protection Functions
The JIKONG BMS provides comprehensive protection for your battery pack. All protection parameters can be configured via the mobile APP.
- Overcharge Protection & Recovery: Prevents cells from being overcharged. When any cell's voltage exceeds the set overcharge protection voltage, charging is stopped. Charging resumes when all cell voltages drop below the overcharge recovery voltage.
- Discharge Undervoltage Protection & Recovery: Protects cells from being over-discharged. When any cell's voltage falls below the set undervoltage protection voltage, discharge is stopped. Discharge resumes when all cell voltages rise above the undervoltage recovery voltage. The BMS will automatically shut down if any cell voltage drops below the automatic shutdown voltage.
- Charge Overcurrent Protection & Recovery: Prevents excessive current during charging. If the charging current exceeds the set continuous charging current for a specified delay, charging is stopped. Charging resumes after a set recovery time.
- Discharge Overcurrent Protection & Recovery: Prevents excessive current during discharge. If the discharge current exceeds the set continuous discharge current for a specified delay, discharge is stopped. Discharge resumes after a set recovery time. (Note: Maximum continuous discharge current should not exceed 120A for this model).
- Overtemperature Protection & Recovery: Protects the battery from high temperatures during charge and discharge. If the temperature exceeds the set value, the corresponding operation (charge/discharge) is stopped and resumes when the temperature drops to the recovery value.
- Low Temperature Protection & Recovery: Protects the battery from low temperatures during charging. If the temperature falls below the set value, charging is stopped and resumes when the temperature rises to the recovery value.
- Short Circuit Protection & Recovery: Detects and protects against short circuits. The delay and recovery time for short circuit protection can be configured via the APP.
- Emergency Switch: A standard function that, when activated via the APP, allows the BMS to continue charging and discharging for 30 minutes even if protection events (over-temperature, over-discharge, overcharge, string drop) occur. This provides an emergency use period.
8. Parameter Setting
All operational and protection parameters of the JIKONG BMS can be configured through the mobile APP or PC software. It is crucial to understand each parameter's function before making changes. Refer to the 'Default Parameters' table in the Specifications section for initial values.
For detailed instructions on parameter setting, please consult the comprehensive PDF user manual referenced in the Support section.
9. Troubleshooting
This section provides guidance for common issues. For complex problems, refer to the full user manual or contact JIKONG support.
- BMS not activating: Ensure all balance cables are correctly connected, and B- and P- lines are properly wired. Activate by connecting a charger (voltage 2V higher than battery) or by pressing an external activation button if installed.
- Balancing not occurring: Check the balance trigger voltage difference setting in the APP. Ensure active balancing is enabled. Verify all cell voltages are within the expected range.
- Unexpected charge/discharge cut-off: Check the APP for active protection events (overcharge, over-discharge, overcurrent, over-temperature, low temperature, short circuit). Review the corresponding parameter settings.
- Communication issues (Bluetooth/CAN/RS485): Ensure the Bluetooth indicator is steady (connected). For CAN/RS485, verify wiring, protocol settings in the APP/PC software, and device address.
- Heating function not working: Check if the heating function is enabled in the APP. Verify the NTC temperature sensor connection and the temperature control switch in the heating circuit.
- Short circuit protection triggering frequently: If this occurs upon connecting a charger or load, consider increasing the short circuit protection delay in the APP. Ensure external wiring has no actual short circuits.
10. User Tips
- Initial Setup: Always double-check all wiring, especially balance leads, before applying power to prevent damage.
- Parameter Adjustment: When adjusting parameters in the APP, make small, incremental changes and observe the system's behavior. Always understand the impact of each setting.
- Temperature Monitoring: Pay attention to temperature readings, especially during high charge/discharge cycles or in extreme environments, to ensure optimal battery health.
- Firmware Updates: Regularly check for and install any available firmware updates for the BMS and APP to ensure the best performance and latest features.
