4. Setup & Installation Notes

4.1 Important Considerations

  • Vehicle Compatibility: This system is compatible with 95% of DC12V petrol vehicles. It is NOT compatible with vehicles that have an OEM original factory push-button start system.
  • Steering Lock: If your vehicle has a steering lock, it must be released before installing this system. Refer to the detailed instructions in the included wiring diagram for this procedure.
  • Chip Immobilizer: An extra bypass module is required if your car's factory OEM key fob (remote) contains a chip immobilizer.
  • Diesel Vehicles: For diesel vehicles with an engine starting time exceeding 3 seconds, it is recommended to turn on the dashboard (ACC ON) first to pre-warm the spark plugs before starting the car. Alternatively, an extra timer delay switch can be added.

4.2 Antenna Installation Positions

Proper placement of the antennas is crucial for optimal performance of the PKE and alarm functions. Refer to the diagram below for recommended installation positions:

Figure 3: Antenna installation positions. Choose P1 or P2 for the high-frequency antenna.

4.3 Push Start Button Options

The system comes with various push start button styles. The default is P2. Ensure the selected button fits your vehicle's dashboard and aesthetic preferences.

4.4 Professional Installation

Due to the complexity of car electrical systems, professional installation by a qualified car alarm installer is highly recommended. This ensures correct wiring, optimal performance, and avoids potential damage to your vehicle or the system.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Key Fob Functions

The key fobs (remotes) provide convenient control over your vehicle's security and starting functions. The buttons typically include:

  • Disarm/Unlock: Unlocks the vehicle doors and disarms the alarm system.
  • Arm/Panic Mode: Locks the vehicle doors and arms the alarm system. Can also activate panic mode (siren) if pressed and held.
  • Start Button/Trunk Release: Used for remote engine start or to open the trunk.

6. Maintenance

6.1 Key Fob Battery Replacement

The key fobs use a button cell CR2032 battery. When the remote control range decreases or the indicator light on the fob becomes dim, it's time to replace the battery. Open the key fob casing carefully and replace the old battery with a new CR2032 battery, ensuring correct polarity.

6.2 General Care

  • Keep the control module and antennas dry and away from extreme temperatures.
  • Avoid dropping the key fobs or exposing them to water.
  • Regularly check wiring connections during routine vehicle maintenance to ensure they are secure.

7. Troubleshooting

If you encounter any issues with your EASYGUARD EC002-PO system, consider the following general troubleshooting steps:

  • System Not Responding: Check the key fob battery. Ensure you are within the PKE range.
  • Remote Start Failure: Verify that the vehicle is in Park (P) and the handbrake is engaged. Ensure all doors are closed.
  • Alarm Triggering Unexpectedly: If equipped with a shock sensor, check its sensitivity settings. Ensure all doors, hood, and trunk are properly closed.
  • Push Button Start Issues: Ensure your foot is firmly on the brake pedal when attempting to start the engine.

For complex issues or if the problem persists, it is highly recommended to consult with a professional car alarm installer. Refer to the detailed wiring diagram provided with your package for specific connection checks.

8. User Tips

  • Familiarize Yourself: Take time to understand all the features and functions of your new system. Practice using the remote start and PKE features in a safe environment.
  • Key Fob Security: Always keep your key fobs in a secure location. Avoid leaving them inside the vehicle.
  • NFC Convenience: If using the optional NFC entry, ensure your smartphone's NFC is enabled and correctly configured, or keep your NFC card readily accessible.
