5. Setup
5.1 Battery Installation
- Locate the battery compartment cover on the back of the tachometer.
- Slide or unclip the cover to open the compartment.
- Insert two (2) 1.5V AAA batteries, ensuring correct polarity (+/-) as indicated inside the compartment.
- Close the battery compartment cover securely.
5.2 Preparing for Non-Contact Measurement
For non-contact measurements, a reflective target must be applied to the rotating object.
- Clean the surface of the rotating object where the measurement will be taken.
- Affix one of the provided reflective strips to the clean surface. Ensure the strip is flat and securely attached.
- The reflective strip should be positioned so that the tachometer's laser can easily target it during rotation.
6. Operating Instructions
6.1 Powering On/Off
- Press the Power button (①) to turn the device on.
- Press and hold the Power button (①) again to turn the device off.
6.2 Non-Contact Measurement (Photoelectric Type)
- Ensure a reflective strip is properly affixed to the rotating object.
- Turn on the tachometer.
- Point the laser emitter (located at the top of the device) towards the reflective strip on the rotating object.
- Maintain a measuring effective distance of approximately 50-500mm (2-19.7 inches) from the target.
- Press and hold the TEST button. The laser will activate, and the display will show the RPM value.
- Release the TEST button to stop measurement. The last measured value will remain on the display.
6.3 Contacting Measurement (Not applicable for TA506A)
Note: While the product description mentions 'Contacting or Non Contacting Measurement', the TA506A model is a photoelectric type and does not appear to include physical contact accessories. Therefore, only non-contact measurement is supported by this specific model.
6.4 Data Hold Function
- During measurement (while holding the TEST button), press the HOLD button to freeze the current reading on the display.
- Press the HOLD button again to release the held value and resume live measurement (if TEST is still pressed).
6.5 MAX/MIN Value Display
- After a measurement session, press the MAX/MIN button to cycle through the maximum (MAX) and minimum (MIN) RPM values recorded during that session.
- Pressing it again will return to the current or held value.
7. Maintenance
- Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the device. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
- Storage: When not in use for extended periods, remove the batteries to prevent leakage. Store the tachometer in its protective pouch in a cool, dry place.
- Battery Replacement: Replace batteries when the low battery indicator appears on the display to ensure accurate readings.
8. Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Device does not power on | Dead or incorrectly installed batteries. | Check battery polarity; replace with new AAA batteries. |
| Inaccurate or erratic readings | Insufficient reflective material; improper measuring distance; ambient light interference. | Ensure reflective strip is clean and securely attached. Adjust measuring distance (50-500mm). Minimize strong ambient light. |
| Laser not visible | Device not in TEST mode; laser emitter blocked. | Press and hold the TEST button. Check for obstructions on the laser emitter. |
| Display is dim or flickering | Low battery. | Replace batteries. |
9. User Tips
- For best accuracy, ensure the reflective tape is applied smoothly and perpendicular to the laser beam.
- When measuring objects with high RPM, ensure a stable hand or use a tripod to maintain consistent distance and aim.
- The 0.8-second sampling time means that for very rapid changes in speed, there might be a slight delay in display update.
