1. Introduction

Thank you for choosing the THUNDEROBOT K98 Wired Mechanical Keyboard. This manual provides essential information for setting up, operating, and maintaining your new keyboard. Please read it carefully to ensure optimal performance and a safe user experience.

2. Safety Information

BEFORE USING AND OPERATING THE EQUIPMENT, PLEASE READ AND FOLLOW THE PRECAUTIONS BELOW TO ENSURE THE EQUIPMENT IS PERFORMING BEST AND TO AVOID DANGEROUS OR ILLEGAL SITUATIONS.

1. Please use the equipment at a temperature of 0°C-35°C and store the equipment and accessories at a temperature of -10°C-+40°C. When the ambient temperature is too high or too low, it may cause equipment failure.
2. The equipment and its accessories may contain some small parts. Please place the equipment and its accessories out of children's reach. Children may inadvertently damage the equipment and accessories, or swallow small parts causing suffocation or other hazards.
3. Please avoid rain or dampness of the equipment and its accessories, otherwise it may cause fire or electric shock.
4. Please keep the equipment and its battery away from fire sources, high temperatures, and direct sunlight. It is forbidden to throw the battery into the fire, dismantle, fall, squeeze, or modify the battery. It is forbidden to immerse the battery in liquid to avoid external blow and pressure, which may cause battery leakage, overheating, fire, or explosion.
5. Do not replace the battery by yourself, otherwise it may damage the battery, resulting in overheating, fire, and personal injury.
6. Do not disassemble or modify the equipment (including the replacement of the built-in battery) and its accessories, otherwise the equipment and its accessories are not within the scope of the warranty.

4. Setup

The THUNDEROBOT K98 is a wired mechanical keyboard designed for easy plug-and-play functionality.

1. Unpack: Carefully remove the keyboard and all accessories from the packaging.
2. Connect: Plug the USB cable from the keyboard into an available USB port on your computer (Desktop, Laptop, Tablet).
3. System Recognition: Your operating system (Windows, Android, iOS, MAC) should automatically detect and install the necessary drivers.
4. Initial Use: The keyboard is now ready for use. You can customize lighting effects and other functions as described in the Operating Instructions section.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1. Backlight Effects and Adjustment

• Cycle Lighting Effects: Press FN + Ins to cycle through various lighting effects: Ripple, Shadow, Sine Wave, Rotating Windmill, Rainbow Cascade, Blooming Wealth, Steady Mode, Breathing Mode, Dreamy Rainbow, Instant Touch, Strolling in the Rain, Key Ripples, Stars Twinkling, Snow Traces, Constant Flow.
• Adjust Backlight Color: Press FN + Del to cycle through backlight colors: red, green, blue, yellow, pink, cyan, white, RGB.
• Adjust Backlight Brightness: Press FN + ↑ (Up Arrow) and FN + ↓ (Down Arrow) to adjust backlight brightness. There are 5 levels of adjustment. When adjusted to the extreme level, the 4 indicator lights will flash 3 times.
• Adjust Backlight Flow Speed: Press FN + ← (Left Arrow) and FN + → (Right Arrow) to adjust the backlight flow speed. There are 5 levels of adjustment. When adjusted to the extreme level, the 4 indicator lights will flash 3 times.

5.2. Light Recording (Custom Lighting)

1. Press FN + Backspace to enter custom lighting recording mode. The ESC, A, S, D, W keys and the 4 directional keys will light up.
2. Press FN + Backspace again to start recording. The 4 indicator lights will continuously flash.
3. Continuously press the desired key to cycle through colors. Set other keys to create your required backlight pattern.
4. After completing the setup, press FN + Backspace to store the custom lighting. The indicator lights will stop flashing.
5. To play light macros, press FN + Backspace, and the defined key lights will remain lit (the FN key cannot customize lighting).

5.3. WIN Key Lock

• Press FN + WIN to lock the WIN key function.
• Repeat FN + WIN to unlock.
• Note: The WIN key function does not lock under MAC system.

5.4. MAC/WIN Function Key Switching

• The default system is WIN.
• Press FN + W once to switch to WIN system (the 4 indicator lights flash 3 times).
• Press FN + A to switch to MAC system (the 4 indicator lights flash 3 times).

5.5. Multimedia Functions

MAC Multimedia Functions:

• FN + F1: Decrease Screen Brightness
• FN + F2: Increase Screen Brightness
• FN + F3: Display Mission Control
• FN + F4: Summon Siri (release after 200MS)
• FN + F5: App Exposé (control down arrow)

5.6. FN Composite Keys

5.7. Reset to Factory Settings

• Press and hold FN + ESC for three seconds to restore factory settings and clear all macro settings.

6. Maintenance

To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your THUNDEROBOT K98 keyboard, follow these maintenance guidelines:

• Cleaning: Regularly clean the keyboard with a soft, dry cloth. For deeper cleaning, use a can of compressed air to remove dust and debris from between the keycaps. You may use the included keycap puller to remove keycaps for thorough cleaning.
• Avoid Liquids: Do not expose the keyboard to liquids. If liquid spills occur, immediately disconnect the keyboard and allow it to dry completely before reconnecting.
• Storage: When not in use, store the keyboard in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
• Cable Care: Avoid bending or twisting the USB cable excessively to prevent damage.
• Switch Replacement: Utilize the provided switch puller to carefully remove and replace hot-swappable switches. Ensure proper alignment when inserting new switches to avoid bending pins.

7. Troubleshooting

If you encounter any issues with your THUNDEROBOT K98 keyboard, please refer to the following common troubleshooting steps:

• Keyboard Not Responding:
  • Ensure the USB cable is securely connected to both the keyboard and your computer.
  • Try plugging the keyboard into a different USB port.
  • Restart your computer.
  • Test the keyboard on another computer to rule out a system-specific issue.
• Backlight Not Working/Incorrect:
  • Check backlight brightness settings using FN + ↑/↓.
  • Cycle through backlight effects and colors using FN + Ins and FN + Del.
  • Perform a factory reset (FN + ESC for 3 seconds) to clear any custom lighting profiles that might be interfering.
• Specific Keys Not Working:
  • Since the keyboard is hot-swappable, carefully remove the non-functioning keycap and switch using the provided tools.

  • If available, try replacing the switch with one of the spare switches provided.
• WIN Key Locked:
  • Press FN + WIN to toggle the WIN key lock.

If you prefer a different tactile or linear response, you can purchase compatible 3-pin or 5-pin switches and swap them out using the included switch puller. This is particularly useful if you're looking for a specific combination, such as blue keycaps with brown switches, as mentioned by other users.
