6. Setup Instructions

Before operating the welder, ensure you are in a well-ventilated area and wearing all necessary personal protective equipment (PPE).

6.1 Power Connection

  1. Ensure the welder's power switch is in the 'OFF' position.
  2. Connect the power cord to a suitable power outlet (110V or 220V). The machine will automatically detect the voltage. If using a 110V supply with a 220V plug, use the provided convert line.
  3. Ensure the power outlet is properly grounded.

6.2 Ground Clamp Connection

  1. Connect the earth clamp cable to the negative (-) terminal on the front panel of the welder.
  2. Securely attach the earth clamp to the workpiece or a sturdy metal workbench that is electrically connected to the workpiece. Ensure good electrical contact.

6.3 TIG Torch Setup (for TIG Welding)

  1. Connect the TIG torch cable to the positive (+) terminal on the front panel.
  2. Connect the gas hose from the TIG torch to your inert gas cylinder (e.g., Argon) via a regulator. Ensure all connections are tight to prevent gas leaks.
  3. Install the appropriate size tungsten electrode into the TIG torch collet, ensuring it is clean and properly sharpened.
  4. Attach the ceramic nozzle and crimp cap to the torch head.

6.4 Electrode Holder Setup (for MMA Welding)

  1. Connect the electrode holder cable to the positive (+) terminal on the front panel.
  2. Insert the desired welding electrode (stick) into the electrode holder.

7. Operating Instructions

Familiarize yourself with the control panel (Figure 5) before beginning any welding operation.

Figure 5: Multi-functional parameters and control panel adjustments. Green light indicates adjustable parameters.

7.1 Control Panel Overview

  • Digital Display: Shows current welding parameters.
  • Mode Selection: Buttons for TIG, Cold TIG, and MMA.
  • Parameter Adjustment Knob: Used to adjust current (A), voltage (V), frequency (Hz), and other settings.
  • 2T/4T Switch: Selects between manual (2T) and semi-automatic (4T) torch trigger operation.
  • Pulse/HF/REM Indicators: Lights indicating active features.

7.2 TIG Welding Operation

  1. Turn on the welder and select 'TIG' mode.
  2. Adjust the welding current using the adjustment knob according to the material thickness and tungsten electrode size.
  3. Set other parameters like pulse frequency (if using Pulse TIG) or downslope time as needed.
  4. Open the gas cylinder valve and set the gas flow rate on the regulator.
  5. Initiate the arc using the torch trigger. The HBT2000pro uses high-frequency (HF) start, so no scratch start is required.
  6. Begin welding, maintaining a consistent arc length and travel speed.
  7. At the end of the weld, release the trigger. The downslope function will gradually reduce the current. Keep the torch over the weld puddle until the post-flow gas has stopped to protect the cooling weld.

7.3 MMA (Stick) Welding Operation

  1. Turn on the welder and select 'MMA' mode.
  2. Adjust the welding current based on the electrode type and diameter.
  3. Strike the electrode against the workpiece to initiate the arc.
  4. Maintain a consistent arc length and travel speed, moving the electrode along the joint.
  5. When the weld is complete, break the arc by quickly pulling the electrode away from the workpiece.

8. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your welder.

  • Cleaning: Periodically clean the internal components with dry, compressed air to remove dust and metal particles. Ensure the power is disconnected before cleaning.
  • Cable Inspection: Regularly check all welding cables, torch, and electrode holder for damage, fraying, or loose connections. Replace damaged parts immediately.
  • Ground Clamp: Ensure the ground clamp is clean and makes good contact with the workpiece to prevent poor arc performance.
  • Tungsten Electrodes: Keep tungsten electrodes clean and properly sharpened for optimal TIG welding.
  • Gas Connections: For TIG welding, check gas hoses and connections for leaks.
  • Storage: Store the welder in a dry, clean environment away from excessive dust and moisture.

9. Troubleshooting

Here are some common issues and their potential solutions:

Problem Possible Cause Solution
Welder does not power on No power supply; Loose power cable; Blown fuse/tripped breaker Check power outlet; Secure power cable; Check and reset breaker/fuse.
No arc (TIG/MMA) Poor ground connection; Incorrect welding mode; Faulty torch/electrode holder; Incorrect current setting Ensure good ground contact; Select correct mode; Check connections; Adjust current.
Unstable arc / Poor weld quality Contaminated tungsten/electrode; Incorrect gas flow (TIG); Improper current/voltage settings; Dirty workpiece Clean/replace tungsten/electrode; Adjust gas flow; Optimize settings; Clean workpiece thoroughly.
Overheat indicator on Exceeded duty cycle; Insufficient ventilation; Blocked air vents Allow welder to cool down; Ensure adequate ventilation; Clean air vents.
Gas leakage (TIG) Loose gas hose connection; Damaged gas hose/torch component Tighten all gas connections; Inspect and replace damaged parts.

10. User Tips

  • For TIG welding, always ensure your tungsten electrode is properly ground to a sharp point for better arc control and penetration.
  • When switching between 110V and 220V, the machine automatically adjusts, but always double-check your current settings as they may need recalibration for optimal performance at different voltages.
  • Practice on scrap material to fine-tune your settings before working on your main project.

11. Warranty and Support

The HITBOX HBT2000pro welder comes with a 1-year warranty from the date of discharge at the destination. This warranty covers manufacturing defects and malfunctions under normal use.
