6.8. Sound Cloning / Tone Catch (ANN Technology)

The MK-20 utilizes Audio Neural Network (ANN) modeling technology to simulate the tone texture of real speaker cabinets, producing realistic bass dynamics, clean tones, tube amp overdrive, and electric guitar harmonics. The official ANN software allows you to model, learn, and replicate audio to generate AMX format files.

Diagram illustrating sound cloning process with ANN technology
Figure 6.7: Sound Cloning / Tone Catch process.

Process:

  1. Connect a classic pedal to a sound card. The left channel captures the original sound, and the right channel captures the effect pedal's output. Generate audio using host recording software.
  2. Use the official ANN software to model, learn, and replicate this audio, creating an AMX format file.

The M-VAVE community's cloud training function allows you to record a file with a sound card, and the training is completed on the cloud server, providing AMXDATA files for import into the MK-20. Computer training supports NAM and AMXDATA formats.

6.9. USB Audio Interface Functionality

The MK-20 offers USB audio functionality, making it easy for home studio recording or silent practice. Simply connect it to your computer via USB to use it as an audio interface for:

8. User Tips

  • Experiment with Presets: The MK-20 comes with 75 factory presets. Spend time exploring them to understand the range of sounds available and how different effects are combined.
  • Customize Footswitches: Take advantage of the customizable footswitch functions to tailor the pedal's operation to your playing style and common needs. This can significantly improve live performance workflow.
  • Utilize the App: The mobile app offers a convenient way to adjust parameters and manage presets wirelessly, especially useful during practice or performance where direct access to the pedal's small screen might be difficult.
  • Explore the Community: The M-VAVE community platform allows you to download sounds shared by other artists. This is a great resource for new tones and inspiration.
  • Regular Calibration: If you notice inconsistent behavior from the expression pedal, perform a recalibration as described in Section 5.2.

9. Troubleshooting

9.1. No Sound Output

  • Ensure the unit is powered on and fully charged or connected to a power source.
  • Check all cable connections (input, output, headphones) are secure and correctly plugged in.
  • Verify that the volume levels on the MK-20 and connected equipment (amp, headphones) are turned up.
  • Make sure no effects modules are in bypass mode or muted. If all 9 effect buttons are off, the MK-20 is in bypass mode.
  • If using the Re-Amp function, ensure the instrument input is not blocked (see Section 6.10).

9.2. Expression Pedal Not Responding

  • Perform the pedal calibration procedure as outlined in Section 5.2.
  • Ensure the pedal is assigned to a function (e.g., volume, wah) and that the function is active.

9.3. App Connection Issues

  • Confirm Bluetooth is enabled on both the MK-20 and your mobile device.
  • Ensure the MK-20 is selected as the 'Current Device' in the app.
  • Try restarting both the app and the MK-20.

9.4. Noise or Unwanted Sounds

  • Check the CPU usage displayed on the screen. If it exceeds 99%, it may cause noise. Try reducing the number of active effects or complex presets.
  • Ensure all cables are shielded and in good condition.
  • Avoid placing the unit near other electronic devices that might cause interference.

10. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the unit. Do not use liquid cleaners or aerosols.
  • Storage: When not in use for extended periods, store the MK-20 in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
  • Battery Care: For optimal battery life, avoid fully discharging the battery frequently. Charge the unit regularly, even if not in constant use.
  • Firmware Updates: Periodically check the official M-VAVE website or app for firmware updates to ensure optimal performance and access to new features.

11. Warranty and Support

For warranty information, technical support, or service inquiries, please contact your retailer or the M-VAVE customer support directly. Keep your purchase receipt as proof of purchase for warranty claims.
