4. Setup Guide
4.1 Installing the Hard Drive (Optional)
If you wish to record video, you will need to install a 2.5-inch SATA hard drive (up to 6TB) into the NVR. Refer to the NVR's internal compartment for installation instructions. The NVR also supports a Micro SD card up to 256GB.
4.2 Initial Power-Up and Connection
- Connect the NVR to its power adapter and plug it into an electrical outlet.
- Connect each camera to its respective power adapter and plug them into electrical outlets.
- The system is designed for plug-and-play operation. The cameras should automatically connect to the NVR.
4.3 NVR Connections
The NVR features various ports for enhanced functionality:
- Router: Connect an Ethernet cable from your router to the NVR's network interface for internet access and remote viewing.
- Mouse/USB Backup: Connect the included USB mouse for system navigation. The USB port can also be used for backing up footage.
- HDMI Output: Connect an external monitor or TV via HDMI for a larger display, supporting up to 4K resolution.
- Power Adapter: For powering the NVR unit.
4.4 Network Connection (Dual-Band Wi-Fi)
The system supports dual-band Wi-Fi (2.4G/5G) for flexible and stable wireless connectivity. Ensure your NVR is within range of your Wi-Fi router for optimal performance. The cameras connect wirelessly to the NVR, which then connects to your home network.
5. Operating Your System
5.1 Live View and Recording
Once powered on, the NVR will display live feeds from all connected cameras on its 12-inch monitor. You can navigate the interface using the USB mouse to view individual cameras, adjust settings, and review recordings.
5.2 Smart Human Detection
The system features intelligent human detection, which can distinguish human shapes from other moving objects, reducing false alarms. When a human is detected, the system can send instant alerts via email or app notifications.
5.3 Two-Way Audio
Each camera is equipped with a built-in microphone and speaker, enabling two-way audio communication. You can listen to what's happening around the camera and speak through the camera using the mobile app or NVR interface.
5.4 Smart Human Playback
Easily review recorded footage with the Smart Human Playback feature. This allows you to quickly locate and play back events where human activity was detected, saving time when searching through recordings.
5.5 Privacy Masking
To protect privacy in sensitive areas, you can configure up to 4 privacy masking zones per camera. These areas will be blacked out in the live view and recordings, ensuring that private spaces are not monitored.
5.6 Night Vision
The cameras provide clear surveillance even in complete darkness, with up to 100ft (30m) night vision thanks to 18 infrared LEDs and an IR Cut Filter.
5.7 Smart Home Integration (Alexa)
The system is compatible with Alexa, allowing you to view camera feeds on compatible smart displays using voice commands. For example, say "Alexa, show the living room camera."
6. Maintenance
- Regular Cleaning: Gently clean camera lenses and the NVR screen with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners.
- Firmware Updates: Periodically check the ANNKE website or app for firmware updates to ensure optimal performance and security.
- Cable Management: Ensure all cables are securely connected and protected from environmental damage.
- Environmental Protection: While cameras are IP66 rated, avoid direct exposure to extreme weather conditions if possible to prolong lifespan.
- Hard Drive Health: If using an HDD, monitor its health through the NVR settings to prevent data loss.
7. Troubleshooting
- No Video Feed:
- Ensure all cameras and the NVR are properly powered on.
- Check Wi-Fi signal strength between cameras and NVR.
- Verify camera pairing with the NVR (refer to the quick start guide for re-pairing instructions).
- Poor Image Quality:
- Clean camera lenses.
- Ensure adequate lighting for optimal day vision; check night vision settings if applicable.
- Verify camera resolution settings in the NVR.
- No Recording:
- Ensure a hard drive or SD card is installed and properly formatted.
- Check recording schedules and motion detection settings.
- Verify storage capacity; delete old footage or replace the drive if full.
- No Audio:
- Check audio settings on the NVR and mobile app.
- Ensure camera microphones and speakers are not obstructed.
- Remote Access Issues:
- Ensure the NVR is connected to the internet via Ethernet.
- Check your router's internet connection.
