4. Setup Guide

4.1 Physical Setup

  1. Positioning the Rotary Chuck: Place the R8 Rotary Chuck on a stable, level surface within your laser engraver's working area.
  2. Using Riser Feet (Optional): If your laser engraver's height is insufficient for the object you wish to engrave, attach the four included riser feet to your laser engraver to elevate it. This provides additional clearance for larger objects when using the R8.

4.2 Connecting to Your Engraver

  1. USB Connection: Connect the R8 Rotary Chuck to your laser engraver using the provided USB cable. The R8 is designed for plug-and-play convenience, requiring no complex installation.
  2. Software Recognition: Upon connection, the built-in recognition chip automatically switches the device to roller mode within the ATOMSTACK STUDIO software (or compatible software). This eliminates the need for manual parameter settings.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Placing Objects for Engraving

The R8 Rotary Chuck supports a wide range of cylindrical and irregular objects. Ensure the object is securely clamped or positioned on the chuck to prevent movement during engraving.

  • Regular Cylinders: For objects like cans, cola bottles, or wooden sticks, place them centrally on the chuck.
  • Irregular Cylindrical Objects: For items such as mugs, wine glasses, or Quencher Insulated Tumblers, adjust the chuck's grip to securely hold the object, accommodating its unique shape. The 180° horizontal and 30° vertical rotation allows for flexible positioning.

5.2 Engraving Process

  1. Design Preparation: Create or load your engraving design in your laser engraver's software.
  2. Parameter Adjustment: The R8's smart recognition system should automatically set the device to roller mode. Verify that the software recognizes the R8 and that the engraving parameters (speed, power, passes) are appropriate for your material and design.
  3. Focusing: Ensure your laser's focus is correctly set for the surface of the object being engraved.
  4. Start Engraving: Initiate the engraving process from your software. Monitor the process closely.

6. Compatibility

The ATOMSTACK R8 Rotary Chuck is designed for wide compatibility:

  • Compatible with all ATOMSTACK laser engraving machines.
  • Compatible with approximately 95% of other brands' semiconductor laser engravers available on the market.

7. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Regularly clean the rotary chuck to remove dust, debris, and engraving residue. Use a soft, dry cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners or solvents that could damage the materials.
  • Inspection: Periodically inspect the moving parts and connections for any signs of wear or damage. Ensure all screws are tight.
  • Storage: When not in use, store the R8 Rotary Chuck in a clean, dry environment away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.

8. Troubleshooting

  • Connection Issues: If the R8 is not recognized by your software, ensure the USB cable is securely connected to both the R8 and your engraver/computer. Try a different USB port or cable.
  • Object Slippage: If the object slips during engraving, ensure it is securely clamped. Adjust the chuck's grip firmly but without causing damage to the object.
  • Engraving Distortion: Check that the object is perfectly centered and level. Verify that the software settings for rotary engraving are correct and that the laser focus is consistent across the object's surface.

9. User Tips

  • Test Engravings: Always perform a small test engraving on a similar material before attempting a final project, especially with new materials or complex designs.
  • Secure Setup: Ensure both the R8 and the object are stable and secure to prevent errors and ensure consistent engraving quality.
  • Software Updates: Keep your laser engraver's software and firmware updated to ensure optimal compatibility and performance with the R8 Rotary Chuck.
