1. Introduction

The Atomstack Atelier L1 is a portable and precise 12W diode laser engraver and cutter, designed for a wide range of materials including wood, metal, plastic, and more. Featuring HD camera positioning, intuitive software, and Class 1 laser safety, it offers efficient and accurate engraving for both beginners and professionals. This manual provides essential information for safe and effective use of your device.

2. Safety Information

Your safety is paramount. Please read and understand all safety warnings before operating the device.

  • Class 1 Laser Safety: The Atelier L1 is certified with Class 1 laser safety, ensuring a high level of protection during normal operation.
  • Fully Enclosed Design: The device features a fully enclosed design with a visual window to protect eyes from direct laser exposure and reduce dust and harmful gases.
  • Eye Protection: Always use the provided eye protection or ensure the viewing window is properly closed during operation.
  • Tipping Detection: The device is equipped with gyro-based tilt detection. If the machine is tilted beyond a safe angle, operation will cease.
  • Door Interlock: A door interlock mechanism prevents laser operation if the enclosure door is open.
  • USB Security Lock: Utilize the USB security lock feature to prevent unauthorized use.
  • Ventilation: Ensure adequate ventilation in your workspace. For optimal air quality, consider using an optional air purifier (sold separately).
  • Material Safety: Only engrave or cut materials specified as safe. Avoid highly reflective, flammable, or toxic materials.

Note: Optional accessories such as the Rotary Chuck, Rotating Roller, Extension Slide, and Air Purifier are sold separately and are not included in the standard package.

4. Setup Guide

The Atomstack Atelier L1 comes pre-assembled and ready to use out of the box. Follow these steps for initial setup:

  1. Unpacking: Carefully remove the engraver from its packaging.
  2. Placement: Place the device on a stable, level surface. Ensure there is at least 100 mm of clear space above the base plate for optimal working height.
  3. Power Connection: Connect the power adapter to the engraver and plug it into a suitable power outlet.
  4. Software Installation: Download and install the official AtomStack Studio software on your preferred device (Android/iOS/Windows/macOS). Alternatively, LightBurn software is compatible (unofficial, sold separately).
  5. Device Connection: Connect the engraver to your device via WiFi, Hotspot, or the provided USB cable.
  6. Initial Focus: The device uses manual focus. Achieve optimal focus by adjusting the laser head until the two red dots emitted by the laser overlap perfectly on the material surface.

5. Operating Instructions

Operating your Atomstack Atelier L1 involves preparing your design, positioning the material, and initiating the engraving or cutting process.

5.1 Software Overview

The AtomStack Studio software is designed for ease of use, from beginner to professional. It includes features like AI Text-to-Image, built-in templates, material parameter presets, and accessory auto-recognition.

5.2 Material Preparation and Positioning

  • Supported Materials: The Atelier L1 can process a wide range of materials including wood, bamboo, paper, leather, cardboard, cork, rock board, felt, fabric, MDF, coated metal, and dark opaque acrylic.
  • Material Placement: Place your material flat on the working surface within the 120 mm x 120 mm processing area.
  • Visual Positioning: Utilize the built-in HD camera for visual positioning. The software provides a real-time preview of the work area, simplifying material placement and pattern alignment.
  • Batch Processing: For multiple items, the AtomStack Studio software supports batch positioning, allowing you to efficiently engrave the same pattern on several workpieces.

5.3 Engraving/Cutting Process

  1. Load Design: Import or create your design within the AtomStack Studio software.
  2. Adjust Parameters: Select the material type and adjust laser power, speed (up to 3000 mm/s for processing, 15000 mm/s for preview), and other settings as needed.
  3. Preview: Use the software's preview function to ensure correct alignment and desired outcome.
  4. Start Operation: Close the enclosure door, ensure safety measures are in place, and initiate the engraving/cutting process through the software.
  5. Monitoring: Monitor the process through the visual window. Do not open the door during operation.

5.4 Multi-Platform Support

The Atelier L1 supports multiple platforms, allowing you to control it from Windows, macOS, Android, and iOS devices. Connection options include WiFi, hotspot, or USB cable.

6. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your laser engraver.

  • Cleaning the Enclosure: Periodically wipe down the exterior and interior of the enclosure with a soft, dry cloth. Ensure the device is powered off and unplugged before cleaning.
  • Cleaning the Laser Lens: Gently clean the laser lens with a specialized lens cleaning solution and a lint-free cloth or cotton swab. Avoid touching the lens with bare hands.
  • Work Area Cleaning: Keep the processing area clean from debris and material residue to prevent interference with laser path and ensure consistent results.
  • Air Purifier Maintenance (if applicable): If using an optional air purifier, follow its specific maintenance instructions, including filter replacement.

7. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your Atomstack Atelier L1, refer to the following common troubleshooting steps:

  • Device Not Powering On: Check the power cable connection to both the device and the power outlet. Ensure the power adapter is functioning correctly.
  • Laser Not Firing: Verify that the enclosure door is fully closed and the USB security key is inserted (if applicable). Check software settings for laser power and ensure the laser is enabled.
  • Connection Issues: Ensure your device is properly connected via WiFi, Hotspot, or USB. Restart both the engraver and your controlling device.
  • Poor Engraving Quality: Check the laser focus (ensure red dots overlap). Verify material settings in the software (power, speed). Clean the laser lens if necessary. Ensure the material is flat and stable.
  • Software Not Responding: Close and restart the AtomStack Studio software. If the issue persists, restart your computer/mobile device.
  • Device Stops Mid-Operation: Check for any tilt detection activation (gyro-based tilt detection). Ensure the enclosure door was not accidentally opened.
