- To turn off, press the On/Off button again.
- Always ensure the lock button is engaged when not in use to prevent accidental startup.
2. Speed Control

Maintenance
- Cleaning: Regularly clean the trimmer's housing and ventilation slots with a soft, dry cloth. Remove any sawdust or debris from the collet and base area.
- Bit Care: Keep router bits sharp and clean. Dull bits can cause poor cuts and strain the motor.
- Battery Care: Store batteries in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Do not store fully discharged batteries for extended periods.
- Inspection: Periodically inspect the power tool for any signs of damage, loose screws, or worn parts. If any issues are found, discontinue use and seek professional service.
Troubleshooting
- Tool not turning on: Ensure the battery is fully charged and properly installed. Check that the On/Off button is pressed and the lock button is disengaged.
- Poor cutting performance: Check if the router bit is sharp and clean. Ensure the bit is correctly installed and the depth adjustment is set appropriately for the material.
- Excessive vibration: This could indicate a bent or damaged router bit, or an improperly installed bit. Replace damaged bits and ensure proper installation.
- Overheating: If the tool feels excessively hot, stop operation immediately. Allow it to cool down. Ensure ventilation slots are clear and you are not overloading the tool with aggressive cuts.
User Tips
- Battery Inclusion: The Makita DRT52 is a 'tool-only' model in some configurations. Always verify your specific purchase to confirm if the 18V battery and charger are included or need to be purchased separately.
- Dust Collection: For cleaner operation and extended tool life, consider using a dust extraction system with your trimmer.
- Practice Cuts: Before working on your final piece, always make practice cuts on scrap material to fine-tune depth, speed, and technique.
