4. Setup

4.1 Charging the Device

Before first use, fully charge the internal 1250mAh lithium battery. Connect the provided USB cable to the device's USB charging port and to a 5V/2A/10W or higher USB power adapter (not included). The charging indicator on the device will show the charging status.

4.2 Connecting the Solar Test Clips

The ET271 uses Kelvin clamps for rapid and secure connections to photovoltaic panels. Follow these steps:

  1. Ensure the solar panel is disconnected from any load or inverter.
  2. Connect the red Kelvin clamp to the positive (+) terminal of the solar panel.
  3. Connect the black Kelvin clamp to the negative (-) terminal of the solar panel.
  4. Ensure a secure connection to avoid inaccurate readings or damage.

  • Over Voltage Protection: If the input voltage exceeds 90V, the device will display "overvoltage" and cease operation to prevent damage.
  • Over Current Protection: If the input current exceeds 40A, the device will display "overcurrent" and stop testing.
  • Over Temperature Protection: If the internal temperature reaches or exceeds 60°C, the device will display "over temperature". Disconnect the device and allow it to cool down before further use.
  • Reverse Polarity Protection: If the positive and negative terminals are connected incorrectly, the instrument will not display any readings, preventing damage to the device. Correct the connection to proceed.
  • Over Power Protection: If the input power from the solar panel exceeds the rated range (0-2000W), disconnect the device immediately and ensure the panel's power output is within the specified limits before reconnecting.

Always adhere to the specified voltage, current, and power limits to ensure safe and accurate operation.

7. Maintenance

7.1 Cleaning

Wipe the device with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents, as they may damage the casing or display. Ensure no liquids enter the device.

7.2 Battery Care

  • Recharge the battery when the low battery indicator appears to ensure optimal performance and longevity.
  • If storing the device for an extended period, charge the battery to approximately 50% and store it in a cool, dry place. Recharge every 3-6 months to prevent deep discharge.
  • Do not expose the device to extreme temperatures, as this can affect battery life.

7.3 Storage

When not in use, store the ET271 in its provided storage bag in a clean, dry environment, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Refer to the "Storage Environment" specifications for recommended conditions.

8. Troubleshooting

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Device does not power on.Low battery or completely discharged.Connect the device to a 5V/2A USB charger and allow it to charge for at least 30 minutes before attempting to power on again.
No display/reading after connecting to solar panel.Reverse polarity connection; Solar panel not generating power; Loose connection.Check that the red clamp is connected to positive (+) and black to negative (-). Ensure the solar panel is exposed to sufficient sunlight. Verify all connections are secure.
"Overvoltage" displayed.Input voltage exceeds 90V.Disconnect the device immediately. Ensure the solar panel's open-circuit voltage (Voc) is within the 3-90V range before reconnecting.
"Overcurrent" displayed.Input current exceeds 40A.Disconnect the device immediately. Ensure the solar panel's short-circuit current (Isc) is within the 0-40A range before reconnecting.
"Over temperature" displayed.Device internal temperature is too high (≥60°C).Disconnect the device and allow it to cool down in a shaded, well-ventilated area before resuming operation.
Inaccurate readings.Poor connection; Environmental factors (e.g., shading, temperature); Device malfunction.Ensure connections are clean and secure. Test under consistent sunlight conditions. If issues persist, contact customer support.

9. User Tips

  • For most accurate readings, perform tests under stable sunlight conditions without partial shading on the solar panel.
  • Always double-check the polarity of your connections before initiating a test to avoid unnecessary error messages.
  • Utilize the data recording feature to track performance over time or compare different panels.
