2. Setup and Wiring Instructions

Important Safety Notice: Incorrect wiring can damage the BMS, battery pack, or connected equipment. Always ensure all connections are correct and secure before applying power. If you are unsure, consult a qualified technician.

  1. Preparation: Solder the balance wires to the positive terminals of each individual battery cell in your pack. Start from the main negative (B0) and proceed sequentially to the positive of the last cell (B[N]). Ensure the wires are correctly ordered and securely soldered. Do NOT plug the balance wire harness into the BMS before connecting all wires to the battery pack.
  2. Main Negative Connection (B-): Connect the main negative terminal of your battery pack to the 'B-' pad on the BMS.
  3. Charge/Discharge Negative Connection (C-): Connect the negative terminal for your charger and load to the 'C-' pad on the BMS. The positive terminals of the charger and load should always be connected directly to the total positive terminal of the battery pack.
  4. Balance Wire Harness Connection: Once all individual balance wires (B0 to B[N]) are securely soldered to the battery cells, carefully plug the balance wire harness into the corresponding port on the BMS. The last wire of the balance harness (e.g., BC17 for a 17S system) should connect to the total positive terminal of the battery pack.
  5. Final Check: Double-check all connections for correctness and polarity before powering on the system.

3. Operating Instructions

The JBD Smart BMS offers multiple ways to monitor and configure its parameters:

3.1 Mobile Application (xiaoxiangElectric App)

The BMS features integrated Bluetooth, allowing wireless connection to the 'xiaoxiangElectric' mobile application. This app is available for both iOS and Android devices. Through the app, you can:

  • Monitor real-time battery information (voltage, current, temperature, State of Charge - SOC).
  • View discharge information.
  • Adjust various BMS parameters within specified ranges.
  • Control certain functions like the main switch.

3.3 UART LCD Display

An optional UART LCD display (sold separately) can be connected to the BMS to provide real-time monitoring of key battery parameters without needing a phone or PC.

4. Maintenance

To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your JBD Smart BMS and battery pack, consider the following general maintenance tips:

  • Regular Inspection: Periodically check all wiring connections for tightness and signs of corrosion or damage.
  • Cleanliness: Keep the BMS board clean and free from dust, dirt, and moisture.
  • Temperature: Operate the battery pack and BMS within their specified temperature ranges to prevent overheating or freezing, which can degrade performance and lifespan.
  • Software Updates: Check for any available firmware updates for the BMS or app updates for the 'xiaoxiangElectric' application to ensure you have the latest features and bug fixes.

5. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your JBD Smart BMS, consider the following basic troubleshooting steps:

  • No Power/Functionality:
    • Verify all main power connections (B- and C-) are secure and correctly polarized.
    • Check the balance wire harness connection to ensure it is fully seated and all individual wires are correctly connected to the battery cells.
    • Ensure the battery pack itself is charged and functional.
  • App/PC Software Connection Issues:
    • For Bluetooth, ensure Bluetooth is enabled on your mobile device and the BMS is within range.
    • For UART, confirm the UART adapter is correctly installed and recognized by your PC, and the software settings are correct.
    • Restart the app/software and try reconnecting.
  • Abnormal Readings/Protections Triggered:
    • Use the mobile app or PC software to check detailed error codes or protection statuses.
    • Verify individual cell voltages for balance issues.
    • Check temperature sensor readings for abnormal values.

For persistent issues, refer to the detailed BMS manual (available from customer service) or contact technical support.
