Wiring Connection and Technical Parameters for Two-wire and Three-wire systemsFigure 8: Detailed Wiring and Technical Parameters for Sensors

Two-Wire System (e.g., Magnetoelectric Sensor for Diesel Engine)

  • Installation: The sensor is mounted on the engine's flywheel casing, positioned vertically to the top surface of the flywheel gear. The distance (L) between the induction end of the sensor and the flywheel top surface should be ≤1mm. A smaller distance results in a stronger output signal.
  • Wire Connection: Both wires are typically black. One connects to the signal output, and the other to Ground (GND). There is no specific direction requirement for the wire connection.
  • Technical Parameters:
    • Output voltage: Sinusoidal wave
    • Measurement range: 100-15000Hz
    • Effective voltage (at 360Hz): ≥1.5VAC (multimeter), peak voltage ≥5V (oscilloscope)
    • Resistance (at 25℃): 1200Ω±10%
    • Gear modules: ≥2
    • Protection rank: IP65
    • Length: L=100MM L1=80MM

Three-Wire System (e.g., Holzer Sensor for Inboard or Gas Engine)

  • Installation: The sensor is mounted on the engine's flywheel casing, positioned vertically to the top surface of the flywheel gear. The distance (L) between the induction end of the sensor and the flywheel top surface should be ≤2mm.
  • Wire Connection:
    • Red wire: Connect to Vcc (+) (18-32V)
    • Blue wire: Connect to Vss (-)
    • Black wire: Connect to signal output
  • Technical Parameters:
    • Working voltage: 18-32V
    • Output voltage: Rectangular wave
    • High level: >10V
    • Low level: <0.7V
    • Duty ratio: 50±20%
    • Frequency: ≤20KHz
    • Protection rank: IP65
    • Length: L=80MM L1=70 / L=80MM L1=60MM

7. Operation

The tachometer features a single black button on the backside for configuration.

Speed Ratio Adjustment

The speed ratio (pulse per revolution) needs to be set according to your engine's specifications for accurate RPM readings. The adjustable range is 1-360.

  1. Enter Setting Mode: Long press the black button on the backside of the tachometer for 3 seconds. The display will show the current speed ratio.
  2. Adjust Speed Ratio:
    • While in setting mode, long press the black button again to increase the speed ratio value.
    • Release the button, then long press it again to decrease the speed ratio value.
  3. Save Setting: Once the desired speed ratio is displayed, release the button. The tachometer will automatically save the new setting after 3 seconds. If the setting is not satisfactory, repeat the process.
  4. Exit Setting Mode: Release the black button for more than 3 seconds to exit the setting mode.

Backlight Color Change

The tachometer offers 7 backlight colors. To change the backlight color:

  • Short Press: Short press the black button (less than 3 seconds) to cycle through the backlight colors in the following sequence: Red → Green → Blue → White → Yellow → Cyan → Purple.
  • Automatic Cycle: After Purple, the next short press will activate the automatic cycle mode, where the backlight color switches every 1 minute.

8. User Tips

No specific user tips were available from reviews or Q&A at this time. For optimal performance, ensure all connections are secure and waterproofed where necessary.

9. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your tachometer, consider the following common problems and solutions:

  • No Power/Display:
    • Check the Red (+) and Black (-) power connections for proper voltage (9-32VDC) and secure contact.
    • Ensure the fuse in the power line (if installed) is not blown.
  • Incorrect RPM Reading:
    • Verify that the speed ratio is correctly set according to your engine's specifications (refer to Section 7).
    • Check the Blue (RPM Signal) wire connection to the sensor and ensure the sensor is properly installed and functioning.
    • For two-wire sensors, ensure the distance between the sensor and flywheel gear is ≤1mm. For three-wire sensors, ensure the distance is ≤2mm.
    • Inspect the sensor and wiring for any damage or corrosion.
  • Backlight Not Working/Changing:
    • Check the Yellow (Backlight +) wire connection.
    • Ensure the power supply is within the specified voltage range.
    • Try short pressing the black button multiple times to cycle through colors and automatic mode.
  • Hour Meter Not Advancing:
    • Ensure the tachometer is receiving a valid RPM signal, as the hour meter typically relies on engine operation.

If problems persist after checking these points, please contact customer support.

10. Maintenance

To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your ELING Tachometer, follow these maintenance guidelines:

  • Cleaning: Clean the instrument's display and bezel with a soft, damp cloth. Avoid using abrasive cleaners or solvents that could damage the surface or seals.
  • Inspection: Periodically inspect all wiring connections for tightness and signs of corrosion or damage. Ensure the sensor is securely mounted and free from debris.
  • Waterproofing: Although the instrument is IP67 waterproof, ensure that all cable entries and mounting points are properly sealed during installation to maintain its water resistance, especially in marine environments.
  • Environmental Conditions: Avoid exposing the instrument to extreme temperatures outside its specified operating and storage ranges (-30 to 70℃ operating, -40 to 85℃ storage) for extended periods.

11. Warranty and Support

For any questions, technical assistance, or warranty claims, please contact the ELING Outlets Store directly through the platform where you purchased the product. Provide your order details and a clear description of the issue to facilitate prompt support.
