Introduction
This manual provides essential information for the safe and effective operation of your SWEVY SW-310 Non-Contact AC Voltage Detector. Please read these instructions carefully before use and adhere strictly to all safety rules and warnings.
Safety Instructions and Warnings
WARNING: To avoid possible electric shock or personal injury, always follow these guidelines:
- If the voltage detector is not used correctly according to these instructions, the protection function provided by the detector may be affected or invalidated.
- Before using the voltage detector, always test it on a known live power supply to ensure it is in good working condition.
- Even if there is no indication or sound alarm, voltage may still be present. This detector indicates effective voltage when a supply voltage generates sufficient electrostatic field intensity. If the field strength is very weak, the voltage detector may not detect the presence of voltage. Detection can be affected by factors such as shielded wires or cables, insulation thickness and type, distance from the voltage source, complete insulation, and differences in socket design.
- Do not use the device if it is damaged or unable to work properly. Before use, check that the tip of the probe is not cracked or broken. If there is any doubt, send it for repair.
- Do not apply voltage exceeding the rated marking on the voltage detector.
- When testing voltages above 30 volts, exercise extreme caution, as such voltage poses a risk of electric shock.
- Comply with all local and national safety regulations and use appropriate personal protective equipment.
- To avoid electric shock, do not use the voltage detector to detect voltage before the battery cover is properly buckled and locked.

Setup
Battery Installation
The SWEVY SW-310 requires 2 x 1.5V AAA batteries (not included).
- Press the snap on the battery cover and push the cover off the body.
- Remove any old batteries if present.
- Insert two new 1.5V AAA batteries, ensuring the positive terminal of each battery is oriented towards the tip of the tester.
- Slide the battery cover back on until it clicks securely into place.
WARNING: Do not operate the voltage detector without the battery cover securely buckled and locked to prevent electric shock.
Operation
Power On/Off
- To Power On: Press and hold the Power/Flashlight Key for more than 1 second. The buzzer will beep once, and the Power LED will light up, indicating the instrument has entered the test state.
- To Power Off: Press and hold the Power/Flashlight Key for more than 1 second.
Flashlight Function
- To Turn On/Off: Press the Power/Flashlight Key for less than 1 second to toggle the flashlight on or off.

AC Voltage Detection (NCV)
The SW-310 uses non-contact electromagnetic induction to detect AC voltage.
- Ensure the device is powered on.
- Place the probe (NCV sensor) of the measuring pen near the AC voltage source (e.g., an electrical outlet, wire).
- The red signal indicator will flash, and the beeper will sound. The stronger the detected signal, the faster the red light will flash and the beeper will sound, providing an intuitive indication of voltage presence.

Zero Line and Live Wire Identification
The detector can distinguish between live and neutral wires based on signal intensity:
- Live Wire: When the probe detects a live wire, the signal strength will be strong, resulting in rapid red light flashes and fast-paced beeps.
- Zero Line (Neutral Wire): When the probe detects a neutral wire, the signal strength will be weak, resulting in slow flashing or no response, and a slower buzzer rhythm or no sound.
For best results, separate the two lines as much as possible when distinguishing them. If separation is not possible, rely on the difference in signal intensity.

Automatic Shutdown
To conserve battery life, the SW-310 will automatically power off after approximately 5 minutes of inactivity or if no induction signal is detected.

Maintenance
Cleaning
Clean the exterior of the voltage detector with a wet cloth. Ensure the device is completely dry before any further use.
Low Battery Indication and Replacement
When the battery voltage drops to less than 2.5 volts, the Power LED will flash. If the battery voltage drops further to less than 2.3 volts, the voltage detector will automatically turn off. When the low battery indicator appears, please replace the batteries promptly following the instructions in the Setup section.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Device does not power on. | Dead or incorrectly installed batteries. | Replace batteries, ensuring correct polarity. |
| No detection or weak signal on a known live circuit. | Low battery; environmental factors (shielding, insulation thickness, distance); damaged probe. | Replace batteries. Ensure the probe is intact. Be aware of environmental limitations as described in safety warnings. |
| Device powers off unexpectedly. | Automatic shutdown due to inactivity; low battery. | This is normal behavior for energy saving. If persistent, replace batteries. |
| Flashlight not working. | Low battery; device malfunction. | Replace batteries. If the issue persists, the device may require repair. |
If problems persist after attempting these solutions, please contact customer support or a qualified technician for assistance.

User Tips
While no specific user reviews or Q&A were provided, general tips for using non-contact voltage testers include:
- Always test the device on a known live circuit (e.g., a working outlet) immediately before and after use to confirm its functionality.
- When distinguishing between live and neutral wires, try to isolate the wires as much as possible to get a clearer signal differentiation.
- The built-in flashlight is very useful in poorly lit electrical panels or dark work areas. Remember to turn it off when not needed to save battery.
- Keep the device clean and dry. Store it in a safe place to prevent damage to the probe.
