3.1 Indoor LCD Display Unit (Receiver)

This unit displays all the collected weather data, including indoor/outdoor temperature and humidity, wind speed, wind direction, wind chill, dew point, and weather forecasts. It also features a radio-controlled clock and calendar.

3.2 Outdoor Wireless Sensor Unit (Transmitter)

The outdoor sensor is a multi-functional unit that measures wind speed, wind direction, outdoor temperature, and outdoor humidity. It transmits data wirelessly to the indoor display unit at 433MHz, with a transmission range of up to 100 meters.

4. Setup Instructions

4.1 Battery Installation

  1. Outdoor Sensor Unit: Open the battery compartment on the outdoor sensor. Insert 2 x 1.5V AA alkaline batteries, ensuring correct polarity (+/-). Close the compartment securely.
  2. Indoor Display Unit: Open the battery compartment on the back of the indoor display unit. Insert 2 x 1.5V AAA alkaline batteries, ensuring correct polarity (+/-). Close the compartment securely.

Note: Always install batteries in the outdoor sensor first, then in the indoor display unit to ensure proper synchronization.

4.2 Sensor Placement and Mounting

For accurate readings, proper placement of the outdoor sensor is crucial.

  • Location: Choose an open area free from obstructions (trees, buildings) that could interfere with wind readings or block sunlight. The sensor should be mounted at least 1.5 meters (5 feet) above the ground.
  • Orientation: Ensure the wind vane is pointing North for accurate wind direction readings.
  • Mounting: Use the provided mounting kit to securely attach the sensor to a pole or wall.

4.3 Synchronization

Once batteries are installed in both units, the indoor display unit will automatically attempt to synchronize with the outdoor sensor. This may take a few minutes. Ensure both units are within the 100-meter transmission range and away from major electronic interference sources.

4.4 Time and Date Setting

The weather station supports radio-controlled time (DCF, WWVB selectable). If reception is poor, you can manually set the time and date. Refer to the display unit's buttons (MODE, SET, +/-) for navigation and adjustment. You can choose between 12 or 24-hour format and set your time zone.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Display Modes

The LCD display unit cycles through various data or allows manual selection using the 'MODE' button. Typical displays include:

  • Time & Date: Current time, day, and date.
  • Indoor/Outdoor Temperature: Current temperature for both locations, selectable in °F or °C.
  • Indoor/Outdoor Humidity: Current relative humidity for both locations.
  • Wind Data: Current wind speed (mph, km/h, m/s, knots, Bft, or gust) and wind direction (N,S,W,E,NE,SE,SW,NW).
  • Wind Chill & Dew Point: Calculated wind chill and dew point temperatures.
  • Weather Forecast: Icons indicating sunny, cloudy, overcast, rainy, or snowy conditions, along with a trend arrow.

5.2 Max/Min Records

The station automatically records the maximum and minimum indoor/outdoor temperature and humidity. Use the 'MAX/MIN' button to view these records. Pressing and holding the button typically clears the records.

5.3 Weather Alarms

You can set weather alarms for temperature. Consult the manual for specific steps on setting high/low temperature alerts. When an alarm condition is met, the unit will sound an alert.

6. Maintenance

6.1 Battery Replacement

A low battery indicator will appear on the receiver display when batteries need to be replaced. Replace all batteries in both the outdoor sensor and indoor display unit simultaneously to ensure proper re-synchronization. Use only fresh alkaline batteries.

6.2 Cleaning

  • Display Unit: Wipe with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • Outdoor Sensor: Periodically check the wind cups and wind vane for debris (leaves, spiderwebs) and clean gently if necessary to ensure accurate readings.

7. Troubleshooting

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
No outdoor data displayedBatteries low or incorrectly installed; out of range; interference.Replace batteries in both units. Ensure outdoor sensor is within 100m of display. Move away from electronic devices. Re-synchronize.
Inaccurate wind readingsObstructions near sensor; incorrect orientation.Relocate sensor to an open area. Ensure wind vane is pointing North. Clean wind cups/vane.
Incorrect time/datePoor radio signal; manual setting required.Move display unit closer to a window. Manually set time and date if radio signal is consistently weak.
Display is blank or dimLow batteries in display unit.Replace AAA batteries in the indoor display unit.

9. User Tips

  • Optimal Sensor Placement: For the most accurate wind readings, ensure the outdoor sensor is mounted as high as possible and away from any structures or trees that could create wind turbulence.
  • Battery Life: While the base station battery life is rated for 12 months, extreme temperatures can affect battery performance. Consider using high-quality lithium batteries in colder climates for the outdoor sensor.
  • Signal Strength: If you experience intermittent signal loss, try repositioning the indoor display unit closer to the outdoor sensor or away from large metal objects and other electronics that might cause interference.
  • Regular Checks: Periodically check the outdoor sensor for any debris (leaves, dirt, insects) that might obstruct the wind cups or vane, or block the temperature/humidity vents.
