1. Introduction

The ATorch BW-600W-DK is a versatile DC programmable electronic load tester designed for high-accuracy resolution battery capacity monitoring and charging. This device supports various battery types including NiMH, NiCd, LiPo, LiFe, and Pb, as well as mobile power supplies and general DC power sources. It features WiFi, Bluetooth, and PC connectivity for enhanced functionality and remote control.

2. Product Features

3. Setup and Connections

3.1 Power Supply

The BW-600W-DK requires a DC 12V/3A power supply for operation. Connect the power adapter to the 'System power (DC 12V)' input on the rear of the device.

3.2 Test Connections (2-wire vs. 4-wire)

The device supports both 2-wire and 4-wire connection methods for testing. The 4-wire method is recommended for higher accuracy as it compensates for voltage drop across the wires.

  • 2-wire wiring method: Simple and convenient. Connect the positive and negative terminals of the battery/power supply directly to the A+ and A- terminals on the tester.
  • 4-wire wiring method: More accurate. Connect the main current carrying wires to A+ and A-, and separate voltage sensing wires to V+ and V-. This method ensures the voltage measurement is not affected by the voltage drop in the current wires.

3.3 Terminal Description

The device features high conductivity copper gold-plated dual-purpose terminals. These terminals are compatible with both banana plugs and direct wire connections, offering flexibility for various testing setups.

3.4 WiFi and App Connection

To connect the tester to your mobile device via WiFi, follow these steps:

  1. Download the Smart Life App: Search for "Smart Life" or "Tuya App" in your mobile app store (Google Play Market or Apple App Store) and install it.
  2. Add ATorch Meter: After powering on the device, the red light will flash and remain on, indicating it's in distribution network mode. Open the Smart Life App, and it should automatically detect the device. If not, click to manually add a device.
  3. Pairing: Select the device, enter your 2.4G WiFi network name and password. Ensure Bluetooth and location permissions are enabled on your phone. Once paired, the app will connect to the device via WiFi for remote control.

4. Operating Instructions

4.1 Main Functional Testing Interface

The main display interface provides real-time data including voltage, current, time, capacity, power, and electric energy. A graphical representation of the test progress is also shown.

4.2 18-in-1 Function Test Modes

The device integrates 18 functional interfaces for comprehensive testing. These include:

  • Constant Current (CC)
  • Constant Voltage (CV)
  • Constant Resistance (CR)
  • Constant Power (CP)
  • Automatic detection of battery internal resistance (BRT)
  • Automatic detection of power supply (PT)
  • Automatic detection of wire resistance and current value performance (CT)
  • Charging and discharging (CDC)
  • Charging and discharging cycle testing (CDCDC, CDXn)
  • Curve version constant current, constant voltage, constant resistance, constant power
  • Dynamic load aging testing
  • Battery Capacity Test (BCT)

4.3 System Backend Settings

To access and adjust system settings:

  1. Press and hold the "ON/OFF" button on the measurement interface to return to the main menu.
  2. Short press the "+/-" button to navigate to the "System Settings" icon.
  3. Short press "+/-" again to enter the system settings interface.
  4. Use the "+/-" buttons to select a column and enter parameters for the corresponding function settings.

Adjustable settings include Language, Display Brightness, Standby Brightness, Standby Time, External Temperature Calibration, Voltage/Current Calibration Reference, Charging/Discharge Cutoff Voltage/Current, Over-Current Protect, Over-Power Protect, Over-Temp Ext.T, Over-Temp MOS, C<->D Waiting Time, Zero No-Load Current, WiFi Reset, Zero All Data, Default Setting, Mini Discharge Amp, Start-up Info Switch, System Sound Switch, and Assembly Power Select.

6. User Tips

  • Charger Not Included: Please note that a charger for your batteries is not included with this product. You will need to provide your own charger to charge batteries.
  • Discharge Current Limits: The discharge current is limited by the maximum power (600W). Specifically, the current will be less than 3A when testing above 200V, and less than 50A when testing at 12V.
  • Android App Compatibility: Some mobile phones may experience compatibility issues with the official app (E-test) from Google Play. If you encounter problems, please download the app from the address provided by the manufacturer.
  • GPS Permission for App: When using the app, ensure that GPS positioning permission is turned on for proper functionality.
  • Language Compatibility: Before extensive use, it is recommended to download and test the app to verify that Chinese and English language switching works correctly on your device to avoid potential issues.

7. Maintenance

To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your BW-600W-DK electronic load tester, follow these general maintenance guidelines:

  • Keep the device clean and free from dust. Use a soft, dry cloth for cleaning.
  • Ensure proper ventilation. Do not block the cooling vents on the sides and rear of the device.
  • Store the device in a dry environment, away from extreme temperatures and humidity.
  • Avoid dropping or subjecting the device to strong impacts.
  • Regularly check all connections for secure fit.

8. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your BW-600W-DK, consider the following basic troubleshooting steps:

  • Device not powering on: Ensure the DC 12V/3A power supply is correctly connected and functioning. Check the ON/OFF switch.
  • Incorrect readings: Verify that the test leads are securely connected and that the correct wiring method (2-wire or 4-wire) is being used for your application. For 4-wire, ensure voltage sensing leads are separate.
  • App connection issues: Double-check your WiFi network name and password. Ensure your mobile device has Bluetooth and GPS permissions enabled for the app. Try restarting the device and your phone.
  • Over-current/Over-power protection: If the device shuts down unexpectedly, check the load parameters against the device's maximum ratings (200V, 50A, 600W). Adjust your test parameters or load accordingly. Review the 'System Backend Settings' for protection thresholds.
  • No display: Check power supply. If powered, adjust 'Display Brightness' in system settings.
