5. Setup and Installation
5.1. Compatibility
The Varstrom G80 Max Shark Ebike Battery offers wide compatibility with e-bike kits ranging from 250W to 1500W. It integrates seamlessly with mid-engine systems as well as front and rear hub motors. Ensure your e-bike conversion kit or motor uses an XT60 male connector for proper connection.
5.2. Installation Steps
The battery is designed for downtube installation on bicycles with bottle cage screw holes. The user-friendly design supports quick assembly and disassembly.
- Install the Mounting Plate: Secure the battery mounting plate to your bike frame using the provided screws. Ensure it is firmly attached.
- Install the Battery: Slide the battery onto the installed mounting plate until it clicks securely into place.
- Lock the Battery: Use the provided key to lock the battery to the frame. This prevents theft and ensures the battery remains secure during your ride.
5.3. Connecting the Battery (XT60 Connector)
The discharge wire of the battery is not directly connected to the connector to prevent trouble and misunderstanding from being inconsistent with the customer's needs. There will be a pair of free connectors with lines (battery end and controller end) in the package, which can be connected directly if needed.
Easy to Connect Without Tools:
- Use scissors to cut off a small section of rubber from the battery discharge wire and the connector line to expose the metal wire.
- Connect the red wire to the red wire, the black wire to the black wire, and twist the metal wires of the corresponding color together.
- Wrap the connection with electrical tape.
After connecting the connector line to the battery, the other end of the connector can be directly connected to the controller or the motor.
6. Operating Instructions
6.1. Power On/Off and Indication
To turn on the battery, press the power button. The LED indicator board will light up, showing the remaining power:
- 1 Green Light: 25% power
- 2 Green Lights: 50% power
- 3 Green Lights: 75% power
- 4 Green Lights: 100% power
Press and hold the button to turn off the battery.
6.2. Charging the Battery
Connect the 4A charger to the XLR charging port on the battery. Plug the charger into a standard wall outlet. The charging current cannot exceed 5 amps. Monitor the LED indicators for charging status. Disconnect the charger once the battery is fully charged (all 4 green lights are solid).
6.3. USB Port Usage
The integrated USB port provides a 5V 1A output, allowing you to charge your phone or other compatible devices directly from the battery whenever needed.
6.4. Anti-Theft Lock
Use the provided keys to lock the battery onto the bike frame after installation. This secures the battery and prevents accidental falling off or theft. The lock also allows for easy removal or replacement when unlocked.
7. Maintenance
- Regular Cleaning: Keep the battery case clean and dry. Wipe with a soft, damp cloth. Avoid using harsh chemicals.
- Charging Practices: Always use the specified 4A charger. Do not overcharge or deep discharge the battery. For long-term storage, charge the battery to about 50-60% capacity.
- Storage Conditions: Store the battery in a cool, dry place with temperatures between 0-45°C. Avoid direct sunlight and extreme heat or cold.
- Cycle Life: The battery is designed for approximately 1000 charge cycles. Proper charging and discharge practices will help maximize its lifespan.
- Check Connections: Periodically inspect all connections for tightness and signs of wear or corrosion.
8. Troubleshooting
- Battery Not Turning On: Ensure the battery is charged. Check if the power button is pressed correctly.
- Battery Not Charging: Verify the charger is properly connected to both the battery and the power outlet. Ensure the charger is functioning correctly.
- Reduced Range: This can be due to various factors including terrain, rider weight, tire pressure, ambient temperature, and battery age. Ensure the battery is fully charged before each ride.
- Loose Connection: If power cuts out intermittently, check all electrical connections, especially the XT60 connector, for secure fit.
9. User Tips
- Optimize Range: For maximum range, utilize your e-bike's ECO mode. Factors like rider weight, terrain, and consistent pedaling can significantly impact battery range.
- Secure Installation: Always ensure the battery is properly locked onto the frame to prevent accidental dislodgement during rides, especially over rough terrain.
- Regular Charging: Avoid letting the battery completely drain. Charge it regularly, especially if you haven't used it for a while, to maintain cell health.
- USB Port Convenience: The integrated USB port is handy for on-the-go charging of small devices, but remember it draws power from your main e-bike battery.
