5. Setup and Initial Use

5.1 Charging the Device

Before first use, ensure the force gauge is fully charged. Connect the provided USB data cable to the device's charging port and the other end to the USB adapter, then plug into a power outlet. The battery indicator on the screen will show charging status. A full charge is recommended for optimal performance.

5.2 Attaching Accessories

Select the appropriate testing attachment (conical, flat, V-shaped, hook, or L-shaped screw rod) for your specific measurement task. Screw the chosen attachment securely into the sensor port at the bottom of the force gauge. Ensure it is firmly attached to prevent inaccurate readings or detachment during testing.

5.3 Powering On/Off

Press and hold the power button (usually marked with a universal power symbol) located on the device's front panel to turn the force gauge on or off. The device will perform a self-test and display the main measurement interface.

6. Operation

6.1 Unit Selection

The device supports measurements in Newton (N), Kilogram (kg), and Pound (lb). Use the 'U' button (Unit) on the front panel to cycle through the available units until your desired unit is displayed.

6.2 Measurement Modes

The DF-500 offers three distinct measurement modes, selectable via the 'M' button (Mode):

  • LIVE Mode (Real-time): Displays force data in real-time. When measuring, the device automatically resets to zero after the force is removed. This mode is ideal for continuous monitoring of force changes.
  • PEAK Mode: Captures and holds the maximum force value detected during a measurement. To clear the peak value and start a new measurement, manually press the 'C' button (Clear).
  • AUTO PEAK Mode (First Peak): Similar to Peak Mode, but the measured value will be held for approximately 2 seconds and then automatically return to zero, preparing for the next measurement without manual clearing.

6.3 Setting Upper and Lower Limits

The device allows you to set upper (HL) and lower (LL) force limits for statistical analysis and quality control. Refer to the detailed user manual (included in the package) for specific instructions on how to access and configure these limits. When a measurement falls outside these limits, the buzzer alarm may activate (if enabled).

6.4 Performing Measurements

Apply force to the attached sensor in the desired direction (push or pull). Ensure the force is applied smoothly and steadily to obtain accurate readings. The large display will show the current force value according to the selected mode and unit. Avoid applying force beyond the maximum load capacity (500N) to prevent damage to the device.

8. Maintenance

8.1 Cleaning

Wipe the device with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents, as these can damage the casing and screen. Ensure no liquids enter the device.

8.2 Storage

Store the force gauge in its protective carrying case when not in use. Keep it in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight, extreme temperatures, and high humidity. Remove any attachments before storing to prevent damage to the sensor.

8.3 Overload Protection

The device is equipped with overload protection. However, consistently exceeding the maximum load of 500N can still lead to damage. Always operate within the specified measurement range to ensure longevity and accuracy.

9. Troubleshooting

  • Device does not power on: Ensure the battery is charged. Connect to a power source using the USB cable and adapter.
  • Inaccurate readings:
    • Check if the attachment is securely fastened.
    • Ensure force is applied smoothly and directly to the sensor.
    • Verify that the device is not overloaded.
    • Perform a calibration check if available (refer to the full user manual for calibration procedures).
  • Display is dim or unreadable: Adjust the backlight settings if applicable. Ensure the device is not in direct sunlight or extremely bright conditions that might wash out the screen.
  • Data transfer issues:
    • Ensure the USB cable is properly connected to both the device and the PC.
    • Verify that the analysis software is correctly installed and running on your computer.
    • Try a different USB port on your computer.

10. User Tips

  • For consistent results, always use the same attachment and apply force in a controlled manner.
  • When performing repetitive tests, consider using the AUTO PEAK mode for efficiency, as it automatically resets after a short hold time.
  • Regularly back up your measurement data to your computer to prevent loss.
  • Keep the screen clean to maintain optimal visibility, especially when working in dusty environments.
