4.2 Initial Configuration (Web Interface)

Follow these steps to configure your CF-EW87 using the web interface. A detailed video guide is available below.

Video: CF-EW87 Wireless AP Install & Setup Guide, demonstrating pre-setup, AP, Bridge, Repeater, and Router mode configurations.

Pre-Setup Preparations:

  1. Connect Power: Connect the Ethernet cable to the LAN1 port of the device and the POE power supply. Connect the POE power supply to a power outlet. Wait for the signal light to turn on.
  2. Connect to Computer: Connect your computer to the LAN port of the POE power supply using an Ethernet cable.
  3. Access Web Interface: Open a web browser on your computer and enter the default IP address 192.168.10.1 into the address bar.
  4. Login: Enter the default password "admin" to log in to the device's configuration interface.

AP Mode Setup Steps:

  1. From the main interface, select "Wizard".
  2. Choose "AP" mode.
  3. In AP mode, the AP requires an internal IP address that is not the same as the upper router's gateway. To manage the AP, the computer connected to it must have a manual IP in the same segment.
  4. Set the wireless SSID, password, and advanced wireless parameters (channel bandwidth, country, channel).
  5. Click "Next" and then "Finish" to apply settings.
  6. Wait for the settings to take effect. After setup, connect the device's WAN port or the POE power supply's LAN port to the WAN.

Bridge Mode Setup Steps:

  1. From the main interface, select "Wizard".
  2. Choose "Bridge" mode.
  3. The AP can set an internal segment (gateway IP should not match the upstream device's). This mode requires the upstream bridged device to enable WDS.
  4. Click "Scan" at the SSID field to find the wireless SSID signal you need to bridge.
  5. Enter the bridged wireless password (this is the upstream WiFi's password).
  6. Configure the AP's own wireless SSID and password.
  7. Click "Next" to complete the setup.
  8. Wait for the settings to take effect.

Repeater Mode Setup Steps:

  1. From the main interface, select "Wizard".
  2. Choose "Repeater" mode.
  3. The AP can set an internal segment (gateway IP should not match the upstream device's).
  4. Click "Scan" at the SSID field to find the wireless SSID signal you need to relay.
  5. Enter the relayed device's password.
  6. Set the AP's own wireless SSID and password.
  7. Click "Next" to complete the setup.
  8. Wait for the settings to take effect.

Router Mode Setup Steps:

  1. From the main interface, select "Wizard".
  2. Choose "Router" mode.
  3. Here offers three internet access methods: PPPOE, Static IP, or DHCP. Select the appropriate method based on your network configuration.
  4. Click "Next" for LAN Port Settings.
  5. You can set the wireless SSID, password, and advanced wireless parameters like channel bandwidth, country, and channel.
  6. Wait for the configuration to complete and take effect.

5. Operating Modes

The Comfast CF-EW87 supports multiple operating modes to adapt to various network requirements:

  • AP Mode (Access Point): In this mode, the device acts as a central hub for wireless clients, extending an existing wired network wirelessly. It creates a new wireless network (SSID) for devices to connect to.
  • Bridge Mode: This mode allows the device to connect two separate wired networks wirelessly. It requires the upstream device to have WDS (Wireless Distribution System) enabled.
  • Repeater Mode: The device extends the range of an existing wireless network by receiving and re-transmitting the signal. It uses the same SSID and password as the main network.
  • Router Mode: In this mode, the device functions as a router, providing internet access to connected devices. It supports PPPOE, Static IP, and DHCP internet access methods.

6. Maintenance

  • Regular Cleaning: Periodically clean the exterior of the device to prevent dust and debris buildup, especially in outdoor environments. Use a soft, dry cloth.
  • Firmware Updates: Check the manufacturer's website for the latest firmware updates. Keeping the firmware updated ensures optimal performance, security, and access to new features.
  • Environmental Protection: Ensure the device is installed according to its IP66 rating, protecting it from water, dust, and extreme temperatures. Regularly inspect the waterproof caps and cable connections for any signs of wear or damage.
  • Antenna Check: Ensure the detachable antennas are securely fastened and free from obstruction.
  • Power Cycle: If you experience network issues, try power cycling the device (unplug and replug the power) to resolve temporary glitches.

7. Troubleshooting

Common Issues and Solutions:

No Power/Device Not Turning On:
Ensure the power adapter (POE or DC) is correctly connected to the device and a working power outlet. Check the power indicator light on the device.
Cannot Access Web Interface (192.168.10.1):
Verify your computer's Ethernet connection to the POE adapter's LAN port. Ensure your computer's IP address is in the same subnet as the device (e.g., manually set to 192.168.10.x, where x is not 1). Try a different browser or clear browser cache. Reset the device to factory defaults if necessary (refer to the manual for reset instructions).
Weak or Unstable WiFi Signal:
Check antenna connections and orientation. Ensure there are no major physical obstructions (walls, large metal objects) between the AP and client devices. Adjust the AP's position for optimal coverage. Verify wireless channel settings to avoid interference from other networks.
Slow Internet Speed:
Check the wired connection speed to the AP. Ensure the AP is connected to a high-speed internet source. Verify the operating mode is correctly configured for your network setup. Too many connected devices can also impact performance.
Device Disconnects Frequently:
Check for firmware updates. Ensure the power supply is stable. Review environmental factors that might affect stability (e.g., extreme temperatures, electrical interference).

8. User Tips

  • MLO Functionality: The CF-EW87 supports WiFi7 with dual-band concurrent operation. While WiFi7 (802.11be) introduces Multi-Link Operation (MLO) for simultaneous use of multiple bands, specific MLO implementation details can vary. The dual-band concurrent feature already provides efficient anti-interference and stable signals across 2.4GHz and 5.8GHz. For advanced MLO features, ensure your client devices also support MLO and check for specific firmware updates from Comfast.
  • Optimal Placement: For outdoor use, consider placing the AP in a central location with a clear line of sight to the areas you want to cover. Avoid placing it near large metal structures or dense foliage that can obstruct signals.
  • Security: Always change the default login password ("admin") for the web interface immediately after initial setup to prevent unauthorized access. Use strong, unique passwords for your WiFi networks.

9. Warranty and Support

This product comes with a standard manufacturer's warranty. For detailed warranty terms, technical support, or service inquiries, please refer to the official Comfast website or contact their customer service. Keep your purchase receipt as proof of purchase for warranty claims.
