Assembly Instructions
Assembling the 6-Speed Gearbox DIY Brick Kit involves carefully connecting various Technic beams, axles, and gears to create a functional mechanical transmission. Due to the complexity and precision required, we highly recommend referring to the comprehensive step-by-step instructions provided in the official PDF user manual for detailed visual guidance.
You can access the detailed assembly instructions in PDF format here: User Manual (PDF).
General Assembly Overview:
- Base Frame Construction: Begin by building the foundational frame using the longer Technic beams and pins.
- Internal Gear System: Carefully assemble the various gears (crown, bevel, double bevel) onto axles, ensuring correct meshing and spacing with bushes and connectors.
- Shifter Mechanism: Construct the shifter assembly, which includes the red and yellow components, and integrate it with the gear system to allow for speed changes.
- Outer Casing: Complete the gearbox structure by adding the remaining beams and pins to form a sturdy outer casing.
- Shifter Lever: Attach the black shifter lever to the top of the mechanism for manual gear selection.
- Reverse Lever: Install the orange lever on the side to control the reverse function.
Below are images of the fully assembled gearbox, which can serve as a reference during your build:

Operating Instructions
- Gear Shifting: Use the black lever on top of the gearbox to select different speeds. Move the lever forward or backward to engage different gear ratios.
- Reverse Function: The orange lever on the side of the gearbox controls the reverse function. Push or pull this lever to engage or disengage reverse gear.
- Motorized Operation (Optional): If a motor is connected, ensure the battery box is powered on. The motor will drive the gearbox, and you can observe the gear changes.
- Manual Operation: The gearbox can also be operated manually by rotating the input shaft (where the motor would connect) and observing the output shaft's rotation and speed changes.

Maintenance
- Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to gently wipe dust and debris from the blocks. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive materials.
- Storage: Store the assembled model or individual blocks in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight to prevent discoloration or warping.
- Inspection: Periodically check for any loose or damaged parts. Replace any broken components to ensure proper function and safety.
Troubleshooting
- Gears not meshing correctly:
- Ensure all gears are properly seated on their axles and that the axles are fully inserted into the beams. Check for any misaligned pins or beams that might be causing obstruction.
- Shifter lever is stiff or not moving:
- Verify that the internal shifter mechanism is assembled correctly and that no parts are binding. Re-check the placement of the red and yellow shifter components.
- Model is unstable or falls apart:
- Double-check all connections, especially pins and axles, to ensure they are fully pushed in. Refer back to the assembly steps in the PDF manual to confirm structural integrity.

User Tips
- Patience is Key: Building complex models like this gearbox requires patience. If a step seems difficult, take a break and re-examine the diagram in the PDF manual.
- Check Connections: Ensure all pins and axles are fully inserted. A loose connection can affect the functionality and stability of the gearbox.
- Explore the Mechanics: Once assembled, spend time observing how the gears interact when shifting. This is a great way to understand mechanical principles.
- Digital Instructions: For a comprehensive visual guide, you can also refer to the official user manual PDF available at User Manual PDF.
