4. Setup

4.1. What's in the Box

The product package typically includes the SONOFF Orb-ZBRBS Smart Roller Shutter Wall Switch (MINI-ZBRBS-E) and a user manual. Additional accessories like mounting screws or specific wiring tools may be required and are not always included.

4.2. Safety Information

WARNING: Please install and maintain the device by a professional electrician. To avoid electric shock hazards, do not operate any connection or contact the terminal connector while the device is powered on!

To ensure the safety of your electrical installation, it's essential that either a Miniature Circuit Breaker (MCB) or a Residual Current operated Circuit-breaker with Integral Overcurrent protection (RCBO) with an electrical rating of 1A has been installed before the MINI-ZBRBS-E.

4.3. Motor Requirements

The motors supported by the device for control are general 4-wire AC motors and 5-wire AC motors (with neutral wire, motor forward line, motor reverse line, and ground line) equipped with built-in forward/reverse rotation limiter.

4.4. Mounting Box Compatibility

The switch is compatible with both 86-Type Mounting Boxes and European Round Mounting Boxes (φ60mm).

4.5. Power Off

Before any installation or wiring, ensure the main power supply is turned off at the circuit breaker to prevent electric shock.

4.6. Wiring Instructions

Make sure all wires are connected correctly. Refer to the diagram and table below for proper wiring.

4.7. Power On

After wiring, turn on the main power supply. The device will enter pairing mode by default during the first use, and the LED indicator will flash slowly.

4.8. Roller Shutter Direction Test

After pressing the switch, check if the roller blind moves in the correct direction. If not, turn off the power, swap the Lout1 and Lout2 wires, then test again.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1. Download the eWeLink App

Download the "eWeLink" App from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store.

The first step in using the device is downloading the eWeLink App.

5.2. Add SONOFF Zigbee Gateway & Device Pairing

The Orb-ZBRBS requires a compatible SONOFF Zigbee hub (e.g., ZBBridge-P, ZBBridge-U, NSPanel Pro, iHost) for smart control.

  1. Enter Pairing Mode: Press any direction button on the device continuously 6 times within 6 seconds to enter pairing mode. Alternatively, press and hold the device button for 5 seconds. The blue LED indicator will slow flash.
  2. Scan QR Code: In the eWeLink App, select "Add Device" and scan the QR code on the device.
  3. Select Zigbee Hub: Choose your added Zigbee Hub in the app.
  4. Find Device: Wait for the hub to find the device. Once found, the LED indicator will keep on, indicating a normal connection.

Note: The device will exit pairing mode if no operation is performed within 3 minutes. If the device exits pairing mode, long press the button for 5 seconds until the signal light flashes slowly and release to re-enter pairing mode.

5.3. Travel Calibration

Using percentage control requires travel calibration. Select one of the following two calibration options:

Method 1: App-based Calibration

Users can use the "Travel Calibration" pop-up window in the eWeLink App, or open the "Initial Settings" on the device settings page and then perform "Automatic Calibration" or "Manual Calibration" according to the text instructions in the App.

Method 2: Device Button Calibration

  1. Automatic Calibration: Press and hold the device button for more than 10 seconds until the LED indicator enters breathing mode. The device will then automatically control the motor for calibration.
  2. Manual Calibration: Press and hold the device button for more than 10 seconds until the LED indicator enters breathing mode. Then, briefly press the device button to enter "Manual Calibration" mode.
  3. Manually open the curtains completely, then briefly press the device button until the LED indicator flashes three times.
  4. Wait for the device to automatically close the curtains, then briefly press the device button again until the LED indicator flashes three times. This completes the "Manual Calibration".

Control the device through the App and check the fully open or fully closed positions. If there is any discrepancy, you can recalibrate.

5.4. Voice Control

Integrate your Orb-ZBRBS with voice assistants like Amazon Alexa or Google Home for convenient voice commands. For example, say "Hi, Siri, Open the curtain to 60%." (Requires smart speakers with corresponding third-party voice platforms).

5.5. Smart Scenes and Scheduling

Automate your roller blinds by setting custom schedules or creating smart scenes. For instance, open curtains at 8:00 AM to soak up the sun and close them at 10:00 PM for a restful night. You can also link the switch with other smart devices, like a door sensor, to automatically adjust curtains for privacy.

5.6. Zigbee Mesh Network Functionality

The Orb-ZBRBS can work as a Zigbee signal repeater, transmitting the Zigbee signal among your Zigbee devices to strengthen your mesh network and extend its range throughout your home.

5.7. Third-party Platform Integration

6. Maintenance

6.1. Cleaning

Wipe the device with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.

6.2. Firmware Updates

Ensure your eWeLink App and Zigbee hub firmware are up to date to benefit from the latest features and improvements. The Orb-ZBRBS supports OTA (Over-The-Air) updates.

6.3. Maximum Continuous Operation Time

The maximum one-way allowable continuous operation time for the motor in this device is 2 minutes. Please pause the operation before the curtain reaches its limit position to avoid damaging the motor.

7. Troubleshooting

7.1. Device Not Pairing

  • Ensure the device is within range of your Zigbee hub.
  • Check if the LED indicator is slow flashing, indicating pairing mode. If not, re-enter pairing mode by long pressing the device button for 5 seconds.
  • Verify that your Zigbee hub is powered on and functioning correctly.
  • Ensure the eWeLink App is updated to the latest version.

7.2. Incorrect Roller Shutter Direction

If the roller blind moves in the wrong direction after installation, turn off the power, swap the Lout1 and Lout2 wires, and then test again.

7.3. Percentage Control Issues

If percentage control is not working accurately, perform a travel calibration (either via the app or device buttons) as described in section 5.3.

7.4. Zigbee Network Instability

Ensure the Orb-ZBRBS is strategically placed to act as a repeater, especially if you have many Zigbee end devices or a large home. Consider adding more Zigbee routers if the network is still unstable.

8. User Tips

  • For optimal performance, ensure your Zigbee hub is centrally located within your home.
  • When setting up smart scenes, consider using light sensors or presence detectors for more dynamic and energy-efficient curtain automation.
  • Regularly check for firmware updates for both the switch and your Zigbee hub to ensure compatibility and access to new features.
  • If integrating with Home Assistant, ensure your Zigbee dongle (e.g., ZBDongle-P, ZBDongle-E) is properly configured for ZHA or Zigbee2MQTT.

9. Factory Reset

To perform a factory reset, which can resolve persistent issues or prepare the device for a new setup, follow these steps:

  • Press and hold the device button for 5 seconds.
  • Alternatively, delete the device from the eWeLink App.
  • Through switch operation: Press any direction button continuously 6 times within 6 seconds.
