Setup Guide

1. Physical Connection

The Split70 keyboard consists of two halves. To connect them, use the provided USB C-to-C cable to link the left and right halves. Then, connect the keyboard to your computer using the USB A-to-C cable.

2. Connectivity Modes

The Split70 supports three connectivity modes: Wired, 2.4GHz Wireless, and Bluetooth 5.0.

• Wired Mode: Connect the keyboard directly to your device using the USB A-to-C cable. This mode offers a 1000Hz polling rate and 3ms latency.
• 2.4GHz Wireless Mode:
  1. Locate the 2.4GHz USB receiver (usually stored in the keyboard's housing).
  2. Plug the receiver into an available USB port on your computer.
  3. Switch the keyboard to 2.4GHz mode using the physical switch on the bottom of the keyboard.
  4. The keyboard should automatically connect. This mode offers a 1000Hz polling rate and 5ms latency.
• Bluetooth 5.0 Mode:
  1. Switch the keyboard to Bluetooth mode using the physical switch on the bottom of the keyboard.
  2. On your device (PC, Mac, Android Tablet), go to Bluetooth settings and search for new devices.
  3. Select "EPOMAKER Split70" from the list of available devices to pair.
  4. The keyboard can store up to 5 paired devices. This mode offers a 125Hz polling rate and 15ms latency.

3. QMK/VIA Configuration

The Split70 keyboard is fully compatible with QMK/VIA software for advanced key remapping and macro creation. To use VIA:

• Download the VIA software from the official website.
• Obtain the custom JSON file for the EPOMAKER Split70 (usually available on the product page or manufacturer's support site).
• Load the JSON file into the VIA software.
• You can now customize key assignments, create macros, and adjust lighting effects in real-time.

Operating Instructions

1. Basic Typing

The Split70 keyboard features a 70% layout with 71 keys. The split design allows for a more natural hand position. Simply place your hands on each half and begin typing.

2. Programmable Knob

3. RGB Backlighting

4. Hot-Swappable Switches

The Split70 supports both 3-pin and 5-pin mechanical switches. Ensure the new switch pins are aligned correctly before pressing them into the socket to avoid damage.

5. Mac Modifier Keycaps

For Mac users, dedicated Mac modifier keycaps are included in the package. You can replace the standard Windows modifier keycaps (e.g., Alt, Win) with the Mac-specific ones (e.g., Option, Command) for a familiar layout.

1. Cleaning the Keyboard

• Keycaps: Use the keycap puller to remove keycaps. Clean them with a mild soap solution and a soft cloth, then rinse and dry thoroughly before reattaching.
• Switches: Use compressed air to remove dust and debris from around the switches. For deeper cleaning, remove the switches (if hot-swappable) and clean the plate area.
• Case: Wipe the keyboard case with a soft, slightly damp cloth. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive materials.

2. Battery Care

The Split70 is equipped with a 3000mAh rechargeable battery. To prolong battery life:

Troubleshooting

1. Connectivity Issues

• Wired Connection: Ensure both USB cables (C-to-C for halves, A-to-C for device) are securely connected. Try a different USB port or cable.
• 2.4GHz Wireless: Make sure the USB receiver is plugged in and the keyboard is switched to 2.4GHz mode. Try re-pairing by unplugging and replugging the receiver.

• Single Key: If a single key is not working, carefully remove the keycap and then the switch using the puller. Inspect the switch for damage or bent pins. Try replacing it with one of the extra switches provided.
• Multiple Keys: Check the keyboard's connectivity mode. If using QMK/VIA, ensure no accidental remapping has occurred. Try resetting the keyboard to factory defaults (refer to the Quick Start Card for instructions).

3. Backlight Issues

• No Backlight: Ensure the backlight is not turned off or set to minimum brightness. Check battery level if in wireless mode.
• Inconsistent Lighting: This might indicate a software glitch or a faulty LED. Try updating the keyboard firmware if available, or resetting settings via VIA.

4. QMK/VIA Software Issues

• Software Not Detecting Keyboard: Ensure the keyboard is connected via USB cable and is in wired mode. Verify that the correct JSON file is loaded in VIA.
• Changes Not Applying: Make sure you are saving and applying changes within the VIA software. Sometimes a keyboard restart (unplug/replug) is needed.
