6. Operating Instructions
6.1 Operating System Installation
The Mini PC typically ships without a pre-installed operating system. You will need to install your preferred OS (e.g., PfSense, Windows, Linux) from a bootable USB drive. Access the BIOS/UEFI settings to configure the boot order.
6.2 BIOS/UEFI Settings
To enter the BIOS/UEFI setup, press the 'Del' or 'F2' key repeatedly during startup. The AMI-EFI BIOS offers various configuration options, including:
- Boot Options: Configure boot order, enable/disable PXE boot.
- Advanced Settings: Enable AES-NI for enhanced encryption performance, configure Wake-on-LAN, RTC (Real-Time Clock) for scheduled power-on, and Watchdog timer.
- Security: Set BIOS passwords.
6.3 Network Usage
Once an operating system is installed, configure your network interfaces (10G SFP+ and 2.5G LAN) according to your network requirements. The Intel i226-V LAN controllers and X553 SFP+ controllers are widely supported by various operating systems.
7. Maintenance
7.1 Cleaning
As a fanless system, the Mini PC requires minimal cleaning. Periodically wipe the exterior with a soft, dry cloth to remove dust. Avoid using liquid cleaners directly on the device. Ensure the heat sink fins are free from obstructions to maintain optimal cooling performance.
7.2 Firmware Updates
Check the manufacturer's website (Topton) for any available BIOS/UEFI firmware updates. Follow the provided instructions carefully when performing updates to avoid system instability.
8. Troubleshooting
- No Power: Ensure the power adapter is securely connected to both the device and a working power outlet. Check the power button and its connection if the device does not respond.
- No Display: Verify that the monitor is correctly connected to the VGA port and is powered on. Try a different monitor or cable if possible.
- Network Issues: Check network cable connections. Ensure network drivers are installed correctly in your operating system. Verify network settings (IP address, subnet mask, gateway).
- OS Not Booting: Check the boot order in BIOS/UEFI settings. Ensure your storage device (SSD/HDD) is properly installed and contains a bootable operating system.
- Overheating: Although fanless, ensure the device is placed in a well-ventilated area and the heat sink fins are not obstructed. Avoid direct sunlight or enclosed spaces.
9. User Tips
- For optimal performance, especially in firewall or server applications, consider installing a lightweight and efficient operating system like PfSense or OPNsense.
- When installing RAM, ensure both SODIMM slots are populated with identical modules for dual-channel performance, if supported by your chosen CPU.
- Utilize the M.2 NVMe slot for your primary operating system drive for faster boot times and application loading.
- If using the optional WiFi/4G/5G module, ensure you have the correct drivers for your operating system.
