1. Introduction

The Irado DM-UV4R is a versatile dual-mode digital and analog walkie-talkie designed for reliable communication. 2. Setup

2.1 Package Contents

Before starting, ensure all items are present:

2.2 Attaching the Antenna

  1. Carefully screw the antenna clockwise into the antenna connector on the top of the radio until it is finger-tight. Do not overtighten.

2.3 Installing the Battery

  1. Align the battery pack with the grooves on the back of the radio.
  2. Slide the battery upwards until it clicks into place.
  3. To remove, slide the battery release latch (if present) and slide the battery downwards.

2.4 Charging the Battery

The DM-UV4R supports Type-C charging and optional desk-top charging.

  1. Connect the Type-C cable to the charging port on the side of the radio and to a compatible USB power source.
  2. Alternatively, place the radio (with battery installed) into the desk-top charger. Ensure the charging contacts align.
  3. The indicator light will show charging status (e.g., red for charging, green for fully charged).

3. Operating Instructions

3.1 Basic Operation

  • Power ON/OFF & Volume: Rotate the Volume/ON/OFF knob clockwise to power on and increase volume, counter-clockwise to decrease volume and power off.
  • PTT Button: Press and hold to transmit, release to receive.
  • Side-keys (1 & 2): These can be customized for various functions (e.g., quick access to NOAA, FM radio, etc.).
  • Function Button: Used for menu navigation and feature activation.
  • Keypad: For direct frequency input, channel selection, and menu navigation.

3.2 Mode Switching (DMR/Analog)

The DM-UV4R supports both Digital (DMR) and Analog modes. You can switch between modes via the menu or a customizable key. The display will indicate the current operating mode (e.g., VFO MODE D for Digital, VFO MODE A for Analog).

3.3 Channel Selection

Use the up/down arrow keys on the keypad or the rotary knob to navigate through the 1024 available channels. You can also directly input channel numbers or frequencies using the keypad.

4. Maintenance

  • Cannot Transmit/Receive: Verify the antenna is securely attached. Check the selected channel and frequency. Ensure you are in the correct mode (DMR/Analog). Check for low battery.
  • "Connect to repeater failed" message: This message indicates an issue with connecting to a repeater. Verify repeater settings (frequency, offset, CTCSS/DCS tones, color code for DMR) and ensure the repeater is operational and within range.
  • Poor Audio Quality: Check volume levels. Ensure the microphone and speaker are not obstructed. If using an external accessory, ensure it is properly connected.
  • Frequency Range Limitations: The radio operates within specified frequency ranges. Attempting to transmit or receive outside these ranges will not work.
