5. Operating Instructions

Focusing:

The lens supports manual focus. Rotate the focus ring on the lens to achieve sharp images of your subject. This allows for precise control over your shots, especially for distant subjects or macro photography.

Optimizing Image Quality and Eliminating Vignetting:

To achieve optimal image quality and eliminate vignetting (darkening at the edges of the frame), it is recommended to zoom in 2X or more within your phone's camera settings until the vignetting disappears. Disabling macro mode on your phone and avoiding other digital zoom levels can also improve results.

General Tips for Best Results:

  • Before each use, ensure both your smartphone's camera lens and the NEEWER telephoto lens are thoroughly clean using the provided cleaning cloth.
  • Verify that the lens is securely attached to the phone clip and that the clip is firmly positioned over your phone's main camera, with no gaps.
  • For maximum stability and sharpness, especially when shooting distant subjects or in low light, it is highly recommended to use a tripod.

6. Maintenance

Cleaning:

Regular cleaning of your lens is crucial for maintaining optimal image quality. Use the included cleaning cloth to gently wipe the lens surfaces. Avoid using abrasive materials or harsh chemicals that could damage the lens coatings. Ensure both the front and rear elements of the telephoto lens, as well as your phone's camera lens, are free from dust, smudges, and fingerprints before use.

Storage:

When not in use, always place the lens caps on both ends of the telephoto lens to protect the glass elements from dust and scratches. Store the lens and its accessories in the provided storage case to keep them safe and organized.

7. Troubleshooting

Blurry Images:

  • Check Focus: Ensure you have manually focused the lens correctly by rotating the focus ring until your subject is sharp.
  • Lens Attachment: Verify that the lens is securely attached to the phone clip and that the clip is properly aligned over your phone's camera. Any looseness can cause blur.
  • Stability: For telephoto shots, camera shake is common. Use a tripod to stabilize your phone and lens, especially in low light conditions.
  • Clean Lenses: Dust or smudges on either the phone camera or the telephoto lens can cause blur. Clean both surfaces thoroughly.

Vignetting (Dark Corners):

  • Adjust Zoom: If you observe dark corners in your images, zoom in 2X or more using your phone's camera app until the vignetting disappears.
  • Macro Mode: Ensure your phone's camera is not in a dedicated macro mode, as this can sometimes interfere with telephoto performance.

Lens Not Attaching Securely:

  • Check Alignment: Ensure the phone clip is correctly aligned with your phone's main camera.
  • Tighten Knob: Make sure the knob on the phone clip is tightened sufficiently to hold it firmly to your phone.
  • Thread Alignment: When screwing the lens onto the clip, ensure the 17mm threads are properly aligned to avoid cross-threading.

8. User Tips

  • Tripod Use: For the sharpest telephoto and macro shots, especially in challenging lighting or with distant subjects, always use a tripod to minimize camera shake.
  • Manual Focus Practice: Take time to practice manual focusing. This lens offers precise control, which can yield significantly better results than relying solely on your phone's autofocus, particularly for intricate macro details or fast-moving distant subjects.
  • Experiment with Zoom: While 2x zoom is recommended for vignetting, experiment slightly with your phone's digital zoom to find the sweet spot that balances field of view and image quality for different scenarios.
  • Macro Photography: Utilize the 70cm minimal focus distance for creative macro photography. This allows you to capture intricate details of small subjects like insects or flowers.
