2. Important Safety Information

  • Compatibility: This controller is ONLY compatible with PWM dimming light strips (RGBCCT/RGBW/RGB/WW/CW/monochrome).
  • DO NOT connect to digital addressable light strips such as WS2812B/SK6812. Connecting incompatible strips may damage the controller and/or the LED strips.
  • Power Requirements: Ensure the input voltage is within the 12-24V DC range.
  • Current Limits: Do not exceed 15A per channel. The total output current for all channels combined must not exceed 20A. Overloading can cause overheating and damage.
  • Wiring Safety: Always disconnect power to the LED strips and the controller before performing any wiring or installation.
  • Operating Environment: The working temperature range is -20°C to 45°C. Avoid exposing the device to extreme temperatures or high humidity.
  • Indoor Use Only: This device is intended for indoor use.

5. Setup Instructions

5.1 Wiring the Controller

Before wiring, ensure the power supply is disconnected. The controller uses quick connect ports for convenient wiring.

  1. Prepare Wires: Strip approximately 8-10mm of insulation from the ends of your LED strip wires and power supply wires.
  2. Connect Power Supply: Connect your DC 12-24V power supply to the 'INPUT DC12-24V' terminals. Ensure correct polarity (V+ to V+, V- to V-).
  3. Connect LED Strip: Connect your PWM LED strip to the 'OUTPUT PWM' terminals. The controller supports various types of strips. Refer to the wiring diagram below for specific connections based on your LED strip type (RGBCCT, RGBW, RGB, CCT, or Dimmer/White).
  4. Optional PUSH Button: For DIY use, you can connect a push switch to the 'IO33 GND' terminals. Refer to section 6.3 for button functions.

5.2 Using the Quick Connect Port

The quick connect port design makes wiring simple and secure:

  1. Open the connector: Gently pull the lever upwards to open the wire entry.
  2. Insert the wire: Insert the stripped end of the wire into the appropriate terminal.
  3. Secure the wire: Press the lever down firmly to secure the wire in place. Ensure the wire is properly seated and cannot be easily pulled out.

5.3 Application Download Methods

The WLED application is free to download and available on both Google Play Store and Apple App Store. No gateway is required for operation.

  1. For iOS: Search for "WLED" or "WLED Native" in the Apple App Store.
  2. For Android: Search for "WLED Native" in the Google Play Store, or download from the web: https://github.com/Aircoookie/WLED-App/releases

5.4 APP Configuration Steps

Follow these steps to configure the WLED app and connect to your controller:

  1. Power on the WLED controller.
  2. Open your phone's WiFi settings and connect to the network named "WLED-AP" with the password "wled1234".
  3. Open a web browser and navigate to 4.3.2.1 to enter the WLED page.
  4. Click on "WIFI SETTINGS" to configure your home WiFi network.
  5. After successful connection, the controller will automatically redirect to the WLED page.
  6. Enter your home WiFi password and click "Save" at the top of the screen. Be sure to choose a 2.4GHz WiFi network, otherwise it will not work.
  7. Connect your phone and WLED controller to the same WiFi network.
  8. Open the WLED app to begin controlling your lights.

6. Operating Instructions

6.1 WLED App Control

Once connected, the WLED app provides comprehensive control over your LED strips:

  • Color Adjustment: Use the color wheel to select from 16 million colors.
  • Brightness/Saturation: Adjust the intensity and vibrancy of your lights.
  • Preset Modes: Choose from multiple user preset modes for various lighting effects.
  • Sync Effects: Synchronize lighting effects across multiple WLED controllers on the same WiFi network.

6.2 WLED Remote Control (Optional)

If you have purchased the optional WLED remote control, you can use it for convenient operation. The remote offers long-range transmission, robust interference resistance, and low power consumption.

  • Restart Button: Pressing this button briefly will power off the controller module (temporarily disabling WLED functionality). Release the button to restore power and resume normal operation. This feature allows quick manual power cycling when needed.

    • 1-Second Long Press: Cycle through lighting colors.
    • 10-Second Long Press: Reset the WLED controller to factory settings and activate the WLED-AP hotspot for initial setup or re-configuration.

6.4 GPIO33 Interface for DIY Use

The IO33 interface is designed for advanced DIY users and can be connected to external push switches, sensors, and more. It provides additional control options:

The DOMRAEM ESP32 WLED Controller is compatible with the following PWM dimming LED strip types:

Important: This controller does NOT support digital addressable LED strips (e.g., WS2812B, SK6812).

7.2 Functional Limitations

  • The controller supports global uniform color adjustment. It does not support segment-specific control or chasing effects.
  • For multi-segment light strips requiring individual control, additional controllers would be necessary.

8. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the controller. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
  • Environment: Keep the controller in a dry environment, away from direct sunlight, high temperatures, and humidity.
  • Power Cycle: If the device becomes unresponsive, perform a brief power cycle using the Restart button or by disconnecting and reconnecting the power supply.
  • Firmware Updates: Periodically check for WLED firmware updates to ensure optimal performance and access to new features. The upgradeable version (DOM-WLE-ACLE) supports firmware burning via its Type-C port.

  • LED Strip Not Lighting Up:
    • Check power supply connection and ensure it's within 12-24V.
    • Verify LED strip wiring polarity and connections.
    • Confirm the LED strip is a compatible PWM type, not digital addressable.
    • Check if the controller is powered on (LED indicator should be active).
  • Cannot Connect to WLED-AP WiFi:
    • Ensure the controller is powered on.
    • Try a 10-second long press on the 'Opt' button to reset to factory settings and re-activate the WLED-AP hotspot.
    • Make sure your phone is close to the controller.
  • Cannot Connect to Home WiFi:
    • Ensure your home WiFi is 2.4GHz. The controller does not support 5GHz networks.
    • Double-check the WiFi password entered in the WLED settings.
    • Ensure your phone is connected to the same 2.4GHz home WiFi network after configuring the controller.
  • Lights are Flickering or Unresponsive:
    • Check for loose wiring connections.
    • Ensure the total current draw does not exceed 20A and individual channel current does not exceed 15A.
    • Perform a power cycle on the controller.
    • If using a remote, ensure batteries are fresh and there are no obstructions.
  • WLED App Not Finding Controller:
    • Ensure both your phone and the controller are connected to the same WiFi network.
    • Restart the WLED app.
    • Restart the controller.
