6. Maintenance

  • **Safe Removal**: Always safely eject the hard drive from your operating system before physically disconnecting it. This prevents data corruption.
  • **Physical Care**: Keep the hard drive in a clean, dry environment. Avoid extreme temperatures, direct sunlight, and high humidity.
  • **Avoid Drops and Shocks**: The P190 has an ABS shell, but it is still a mechanical device. Protect it from physical impact to prevent damage to internal components.
  • **Cleaning**: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the exterior of the drive. Do not use liquid cleaners or solvents.

7. Troubleshooting

  • **Drive Not Detected**:
    • Ensure the USB cable is securely connected to both the hard drive and the computer's USB port.
    • Try connecting to a different USB port on your computer.
    • Try connecting to a different computer to rule out a computer-specific issue.
    • Check 'Disk Management' (Windows) or 'Disk Utility' (macOS) to see if the drive is recognized but not assigned a drive letter or needs initialization/formatting.
  • **Slow Transfer Speeds**:
    • Ensure you are connected to a USB 3.0 port. USB 2.0 ports will result in significantly slower speeds.
    • Avoid running multiple demanding applications during large file transfers.
    • Check the health of the drive using disk utility software.
  • **Drive Disconnects Randomly**:
    • Ensure the USB cable is not loose.
    • Try a different USB cable.
    • Disable USB selective suspend settings in Windows power options if applicable.

8. User Tips

  • **Avoid Hot Swapping**: It is crucial to safely eject the hard drive from your operating system before unplugging it. Hot swapping (disconnecting without ejecting) can lead to data corruption and damage the product.
  • **Regular Backups**: Even with external storage, it's good practice to maintain multiple backups of critical data.
  • **Organize Files**: Create a clear folder structure on your external drive to easily manage your movies, photos, documents, and other files.
  • **Utilize USB 3.0**: Always connect the P190 to a USB 3.0 port on your device to take full advantage of its high-speed transfer capabilities (up to 5Gbps theoretical, 100-120 MB/s actual).
