6. Operating Instructions

6.1 Scanning Barcodes

To scan a barcode, point the scanner's window at the barcode and press the trigger button. Ensure the red scanning line covers the entire barcode for accurate reading. The scanner will provide an audible beep and/or vibration (if enabled) upon successful scan.

6.2 Upload Modes

The scanner supports two data upload modes:

Explanation of Instant Upload Mode and Storage Mode.

6.2.1 Instant Upload Mode (Default)

In this mode, every barcode scanned is immediately transmitted to the connected device. This is ideal for real-time data entry.

6.2.2 Storage Mode (Offline Mode)

When not connected or when you prefer to collect data for later upload, switch to Storage Mode. The scanner's 16MB internal memory can store up to 100,000 UPC/EAN barcodes. To upload stored data, connect the scanner to your device and initiate the upload process (refer to the full manual for specific barcode commands to switch modes and upload data).

6.3 Decoding Capabilities

The EY-014 can easily scan a wide variety of 1D, 2D, and QR codes from both paper and monitor screens. This includes common formats like QR Code, Data Matrix, PDF417, UPC/EAN, Code 39, Code 128, and more.

6.4 Battery Life and Management

The 1200mAh battery provides ample power for extended use. Monitor the battery indicator (if available) or charge the device when performance degrades. A full charge takes approximately 3.5 hours and provides 8 hours of continuous scanning or 25 hours of standby time.

7. Maintenance

7.1 Cleaning

To maintain optimal scanning performance, keep the scanner's window clean. Use a soft, dry, lint-free cloth to gently wipe the scanning window. Avoid using abrasive cleaners, solvents, or excessive moisture, as these can damage the device.

7.2 Battery Care

To prolong battery life, avoid exposing the scanner to extreme temperatures. If the scanner will not be used for an extended period, store it with a partial charge (around 50%) and recharge it periodically to prevent deep discharge.

7.3 Storage

Store the scanner in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and corrosive materials. Protect it from drops and impacts.

8. Troubleshooting

8.1 Scanner Not Connecting

  • Wired Mode: Ensure the USB cable is securely connected to both the scanner and the host device. Try a different USB port or cable.
  • 2.4G Wireless Mode: Verify the 2.4G USB dongle is properly inserted into the host device. Ensure the scanner is powered on and within range. Re-pair the scanner with the dongle if necessary (refer to the full manual for pairing instructions).
  • Bluetooth Mode: Make sure Bluetooth is enabled on your host device and the scanner is in pairing mode. Delete any previous pairings and attempt to re-pair. Ensure the scanner is within the effective Bluetooth range.

8.2 No Scan Output

  • Check Mode: Ensure the scanner is in the correct upload mode (Instant Upload or Storage Mode). If in Storage Mode, data will not be sent immediately.
  • Barcode Quality: Verify the barcode is clear, undamaged, and well-printed.
  • Lighting: Ensure adequate lighting for the barcode. Avoid direct glare on the barcode or scanner window.
  • Compatibility: Confirm that the barcode type you are scanning is supported by the EY-014.
  • Scanner Window: Clean the scanner window for any smudges or dirt.

8.3 Poor Scan Performance

  • Distance & Angle: Adjust the distance and angle between the scanner and the barcode.
  • Screen Brightness: When scanning from screens, increase the screen brightness for better readability.
  • Battery Level: A low battery can affect scanning performance. Recharge the scanner.

8.4 Sound/Vibration Issues

If the scanner is not providing audible or tactile feedback, check if the sound and vibration features have been intentionally turned off. Refer to the full manual for instructions on enabling/disabling these features.

9. User Tips

  • For optimal performance, ensure the scanner's battery is adequately charged before extended use.
  • When scanning from screens, adjust screen brightness for better readability.
  • If experiencing connectivity issues, try re-pairing Bluetooth or re-inserting the 2.4G dongle.
  • Utilize the Storage Mode for inventory tasks in areas without immediate computer access, then upload data when convenient.
