4.5 CV CC CW Features Introduction

Explanation of Constant Voltage (CV), Constant Current (CC), and Constant Power (CW) modes
Figure 10: Detailed explanation of CV, CC, and CW operating modes.
  1. Constant Power Function (CW): When the constant power function is not turned on, the power supply only has the functions of constant voltage (CV) and constant current (CC), which automatically switch based on the load.
    • When the load current is less than the set constant current value, the power supply is in the constant voltage mode, where the output voltage is the set voltage value CV, and the current is adaptive.
    • When the load current is less than the set constant current value, the power supply is in the constant voltage mode, where the output voltage is the set voltage value CV, and the current is adaptive.
  2. Enabling Constant Power: After the constant power function is turned on, the constant current value defaults to the maximum value, and the constant voltage value CV serves as the initial voltage (set to a reasonable value based on actual conditions). After the power supply is turned on, the equivalent resistance R of the load is calculated using Ohm's law R=U/I. Then, the corresponding voltage can be calculated based on the set constant power value using the power formula P=U²/R. At this point, the constant power point algorithm automatically follows, and the constant power is achieved.
    • Constant Power Switch and Constant Power Value Setting:
      1. In the system parameter settings UI, select the CW option. Turn ON to enable constant power, and turn OFF to disable constant power.
      2. After enabling constant power, press ISET briefly on the main interface to modify the value of constant power.

4.6 MPPT Solar Charging and Battery Management

The power supply supports MPPT solar charging and includes features for intelligent battery charging management.

Figure 11: MPPT function with external temperature probe and battery charging indicator.
  • MPPT Function: Supports automatic stop when fully charged and automatic charging at low battery, enabling intelligent battery charging management.
  • External Temperature Probe: Can be connected for over-temperature protection. Attach the external temperature probe to the battery, and it will automatically stop charging in case of over-temperature.
  • BCH and BTF Functions: With BCH automatic charging and BTF full-charge auto-stop function, enabling unattended operation.

Precaution: Ensure the unit is OFF before connecting the battery. Avoid reverse polarity connection to prevent device damage or fire hazards. Turn on the output ONLY after the battery icon appears on the screen to initiate charging.

4.7 Group Control

The digital control panel supports one-to-many group control via the 485 bus. This allows collective management of power supply activation/deactivation, voltage/current settings, achieving one-to-many control with simplicity and efficiency.

Group control setup using 485 bus for multiple power supplies
Figure 12: Group control via 485 bus, managing multiple XY8050S units simultaneously.

Activating Group Control Function: On the main power supply interface, briefly press the SW button to select the right status bar. Rotate the encoder to choose the group control switch activation icon, then briefly press the encoder button to open the selection dialog. Press the SW or encoder button to select ON and rotate the encoder to ON to enable group control mode. When setting voltage, current, or power on/off, the changes will automatically synchronize to all devices on the 485 bus (Note: Device addresses on the bus must be unique). Hold the SW button or wait 6 seconds without operation to exit and save settings automatically.

4.8 Software Control

The product comes with complementary commercial software for multi-serial port host control. This software allows for unlimited device connectivity, batch control of all devices, and administrative accounts for secure management.

8. User Tips

  • Always double-check input and output polarity before powering on to prevent damage.
  • When using the MPPT function for battery charging, ensure the external temperature probe is correctly attached to the battery for accurate over-temperature protection.
  • For precise current measurement, avoid using a multimeter's current range directly in series with the output if the current exceeds the multimeter's 10A gear, as this can damage the multimeter. Utilize the power supply's built-in current display.
  • Take advantage of the data set recall feature to quickly switch between frequently used voltage/current configurations.
  • If you experience any unexpected behavior, try resetting the capacity/energy/runtime counters by long-pressing the encoder button on the respective display interface.
