  • Ensure correct jack, function, and range selection for all measurements.
  • Do not operate the meter in environments with explosive gases, vapors, or dust.
  • Keep fingers behind the probe barriers when using test leads.
  • When connecting, attach the common (black) test lead first, then the live (red) test lead. When disconnecting, remove the live test lead first, then the common test lead.
  • Before testing resistance, continuity, and diodes, ensure the power supply to the circuit is disconnected and all capacitors are discharged.
  • Do not open the meter case or battery cover while the meter is in use or connected to a circuit.
  • Replace batteries immediately when the low battery indicator () appears to avoid inaccurate readings and potential hazards.

  1. Turn off the meter.
  2. Remove all test pens from the input jacks.
  3. Use a screwdriver to loosen the screws securing the battery cover.
  4. Remove the battery cover.
  5. Plug in the Type-C charging cable to initiate charging. A red light indicates charging in progress; a green light indicates fully charged.
  6. Once fully charged, install the battery cover and tighten the screws.

Warning: Do not turn on the device while charging.

6. Operating Instructions

Key Operations:

  • HOLD Button: Short press to lock the displayed data (Data Hold). Short press again to cancel. Long press (>2 seconds) to turn the LED flashlight on or off.
  • Power Button: Long press (>2 seconds) to turn the meter on or off. Short press to toggle the auto power-off function.
  • VFC/NCV/LIVE Button: Short press to enter NCV (Non-Contact Voltage) mode. Short press again to enter LIVE wire detection mode. Long press (>2 seconds) to switch to VFC (Variable Frequency Control) measurement mode when in AC voltage measurement.
  • Function Switch Button: Short press to cycle through different measurement functions: DC voltage, AC voltage, continuity, resistance, diode, capacitance, and temperature.

Measurement Procedures:

AC/DC Voltage Measurement:

  1. Connect the black test lead to the COM input jack and the red test lead to the INPUT input jack.
  2. Select the appropriate AC or DC voltage mode using the Function Switch button.
  3. Touch the red and black test leads to the component or circuit under test.
  4. Read the measured value from the LCD display. For DC voltages, the display will also show the polarity.

Warning: The maximum input voltage is 600V (AC/DC). Do not exceed this limit to prevent electric shock or meter damage.

Note: In small voltage ranges, the meter may show fluctuating readings when test pens are not connected to a circuit due to high sensitivity. A true measurement value will be obtained once connected.

AC Current Measurement:

  1. Ensure test leads are removed from the input jacks.
  2. Press the Clamp Head Trigger to open the jaws.
  3. Clamp the jaws around a single conductor of the circuit under test, ensuring the wire is centered.
  4. Release the trigger until the jaws are fully closed.
  5. Read the measured AC current value from the LCD display.

Warning: Only measure one current conductor at a time. Measuring multiple conductors simultaneously will result in incorrect readings. Pull out test pens before measuring current.

Resistance, Continuity, Diode, and Capacitance Measurement:

  1. Connect the black test lead to COM and the red test lead to INPUT.
  2. Select the desired mode (Resistance, Continuity, Diode, or Capacitance) using the Function Switch button.
  3. Connect the test leads in parallel to the component under test.
  4. Read the measured value from the LCD display. For continuity, a buzzer will sound if resistance is approximately less than 30Ω. For diodes, the approximate forward voltage value will be displayed.

Warning: Before testing, disconnect the power supply to the circuit and discharge all capacitors. Do not input voltages higher than 20V DC or 30V AC to avoid injury or instrument damage.

Temperature Measurement:

  1. Connect the K-type thermocouple (included) to the COM and INPUT jacks, observing polarity.
  2. Select the temperature mode (°C/°F) using the Function Switch button.
  3. Place the thermocouple probe in contact with the object or environment to be measured.
  4. Read the temperature from the LCD display.

NCV (Non-Contact Voltage) Detection:

  1. Ensure test leads are removed from the input jacks.
  2. Short press the VFC/NCV/LIVE button to enter NCV mode.
  3. Bring the front of the clamp head (0-5cm) close to the object or area to be tested for AC voltage or electromagnetic fields.
  4. The device will emit beeps that vary in intensity according to the voltage level, indicating voltage strength.

Warning: Do not rely solely on NCV detection to determine the presence of voltage. Factors like receptacle design, insulation thickness, and external interference can affect detection. Always pull out test pens when performing NCV measurements.

7. Maintenance

General Maintenance:

  • To prevent injury or damage, ensure the inside of the meter remains dry.
  • Always disconnect test pens and any input signals before opening the case or battery cover.

Cleaning:

  • Periodically clean the meter housing with a damp cloth and a small amount of neutral detergent. Do not use abrasive cleaners or chemical solvents, as these can corrode the case or damage the instrument.
  • Dirty or wet input jacks can affect measurement readings. To clean them:
    1. Turn off the meter and remove all test pens.
    2. Remove any visible dirt from the jacks.
    3. Use a new cotton ball moistened with a cleaner or lubricant (e.g., WD-40).
    4. Clean each jack thoroughly with the cotton ball. Lubricant helps prevent moisture-related contamination.

8. User Tips

  • For accurate resistance, continuity, diode, and capacitance measurements, always ensure the power supply to the circuit is disconnected and all capacitors are fully discharged before testing.
  • When measuring AC current, ensure only one conductor is placed within the clamp jaws for accurate readings. If the conductor is not centered, a positional error of up to 1.5% may occur.
  • The meter features an auto power-off function after approximately 15 minutes of inactivity to conserve battery. This can be toggled on/off by a short press of the power button.
  • The FY382C model supports DC voltage measurement, providing versatility for various electrical tasks.

9. Troubleshooting

  • Jumping Readings in Small Voltage Range: This is normal behavior due to the meter's high sensitivity when test leads are not connected to a circuit. Connect the leads to the circuit under test to obtain the true measurement value.
  • Low Battery Indicator (): Recharge the meter immediately. Continuing to use the meter with a low battery may result in false readings, which could lead to electric shock or personal injury.
  • Inaccurate Test Data due to Inductive Impedance: If inductive impedance in the line affects the test value, disconnect the test leads from the circuit and re-test to obtain correct data.
