5. Setup

5.1. Battery Installation

The TRV is powered by 2 AA alkaline batteries.

  1. Press and hold the battery sheet.
  2. Push out the battery compartment.
  3. Insert 2 AA alkaline batteries, ensuring correct polarity (+/-).
  4. Close the battery cover.

5.2. Physical Installation on Radiator

The TRV is designed for easy installation on most radiator valves.

  1. Unscrew the existing thermostatic head from your radiator valve.
  2. Select the appropriate adapter for your valve type (e.g., Danfoss RA, RAV, RAV L, Giacomini, M28*1.5, Caleffi).
  3. Place the chosen adapter onto the radiator valve.
  4. Tighten the adapter securely.
  5. Rotate the TRV body onto the adapter until it is firmly attached.

5.3. Network Connection (ZigBee Gateway Required)

The TRV ME168 requires a Tuya ZigBee gateway to connect to your WiFi network and enable smart features.

  1. Ensure your Tuya ZigBee Gateway is powered on and connected to your home WiFi network.
  2. Open the Smart Life/Tuya Smart app on your smartphone.
  3. Add the TRV device through the app, following the on-screen instructions for ZigBee device pairing.
  4. Once paired, the WiFi mode indicator on the TRV display will confirm connectivity.

6. Operating Instructions

6.1. Manual Temperature Adjustment

Rotate the adjustable knob on the TRV to manually set your desired temperature. The new set temperature will be displayed.

6.2. App Remote Control

Download the 'Smart Life' or 'Tuya Smart' app from your smartphone's app store. Once the TRV is paired with your ZigBee gateway, you can control it from anywhere.

6.3. Voice Control

The TRV is compatible with Amazon Alexa, Google Home, and Yandex Alice. After linking your Smart Life/Tuya Smart account to your voice assistant, you can use simple commands to control your heating.

6.4. Programmable Weekly Schedule

6.5. Open Window Detection

This feature helps save energy by automatically stopping heating when a sudden drop in room temperature is detected, indicating an open window or door.

  • Activation: Room temperature drops by 6°C or more within 4 minutes. The valve will close.
  • Release: Room temperature rises by 3°C, or after 48 minutes, or manually via the app/device.

6.6. Child Lock Function

Activate the child lock via the app to prevent unauthorized or accidental changes to the TRV settings, ensuring your home remains in a smart and safe status.

7. Maintenance

7.1. Battery Replacement

When the low battery warning appears on the display, replace the 2 AA alkaline batteries promptly to ensure continuous operation. Follow the battery installation steps in Section 5.1.

7.2. Cleaning

Wipe the device with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents, as they may damage the surface or internal components.

  • Device not connecting to app: Ensure your ZigBee gateway is online and within range. Check if the TRV is in pairing mode.
  • Inaccurate temperature readings: Ensure the TRV is not obstructed or exposed to direct heat sources that could affect its sensor.
  • Valve not opening/closing: Check battery levels. Ensure the valve is properly installed and not stuck.
  • Voice control not working: Verify that your Smart Life/Tuya Smart account is correctly linked to your voice assistant (Alexa/Google Home) and that the device is named appropriately.
