5. Maintenance

The COMFAST CF-EW87 is designed for outdoor use with an IP66 waterproof and dustproof rating, minimizing the need for extensive maintenance. However, regular checks can ensure optimal performance and longevity.

  • Physical Inspection: Periodically inspect the device and its connections for any signs of damage, loose cables, or obstructions. Ensure waterproof caps are securely in place.
  • Cleaning: If necessary, gently clean the exterior of the device with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive materials.
  • Firmware Updates: Check the COMFAST official website regularly for firmware updates. Keeping the firmware updated ensures the latest features, security patches, and performance improvements.
  • Environmental Considerations: While rated for outdoor use, avoid installing the device in locations prone to extreme physical stress or prolonged submersion.

6. Troubleshooting

6.1 No Internet Connection

  • Check Cables: Ensure all Ethernet cables are securely connected to the WAN and LAN ports.
  • Power Supply: Verify the device is receiving power, and the Power LED is on. If using POE, ensure the POE injector/switch is functioning correctly.
  • WAN Connection: Check the status of your internet source (modem/router). Ensure the WAN LED on the CF-EW87 is active.
  • Router Settings: Access the device's web interface (refer to the full installation manual for default IP and login) to check WAN settings and ensure they are correctly configured.

6.2 Slow Wi-Fi Speed or Intermittent Connection

  • Signal Strength: Ensure your devices are within the optimal range of the AP. Obstacles like thick walls or metal structures can degrade signal.
  • Interference: Other wireless devices or networks operating on similar frequencies can cause interference. Consider changing Wi-Fi channels in the device settings.
  • Device Load: While the CF-EW87 supports many devices, excessive simultaneous high-bandwidth usage might affect performance.
  • Firmware: Ensure the device firmware is up to date.

6.3 Device Unresponsive / Factory Reset

If the device becomes unresponsive or you forget the login credentials, you can perform a factory reset.

  • Reset Button: Locate the RESET button on the device (often a small pinhole next to the ports).
  • Procedure: With the device powered on, use a paperclip or a thin object to press and hold the RESET button for approximately 5-10 seconds until the LEDs flash. Release the button, and the device will reboot with factory default settings.
