5. Setup Instructions

The module is designed for manual setup without requiring programming or driver installation. Configuration is primarily done via jumpers on the board.

5.1. Jumper Configuration for Master/Slave Mode and Sampling Rate

Refer to Figure 4 for the location of the jumpers on the underside of the module. These jumpers control the operating mode (Master/Slave) and various sampling frequency settings.

Bottom view of the I2S ADC module, showing jumper settings for Slave/Master mode, sampling frequency details, and LJ/RJ settings. Text on the board indicates 'Slave Sampling Frequency: 8-192kHz (128fs, 192fs, 256fs, 384fs, 512fs, 768fs)' and 'Master 96K = 256fs, 192K = 128fs'. Jumpers are labeled 'NC=I2S', '1=LJ', '0=RJ'.
Figure 4: Jumper Settings for Mode and Sampling Frequency
  • Master Mode: To configure the module as a master, set the appropriate jumpers as indicated on the board for 24-bit 192kHz or 24-bit 96kHz operation. The image shows 'Master 96K = 256fs' and '192K = 128fs'.
  • Slave Mode: To configure the module as a slave, set the jumpers for the desired bit depth and sampling rate (e.g., 24-bit 192kHz, 24-bit 96kHz, 24-bit 48kHz, or 16-bit 48kHz). The image indicates 'Slave Sampling Frequency: 8-192kHz' with various fs options.
  • Left/Right Justified (LJ/RJ): The jumpers labeled '1=LJ' and '0=RJ' allow selection of Left Justified or Right Justified I2S format, if applicable to your setup.

5.2. Power and Signal Connections

Connect the module to your system using the provided connection cable and appropriate power supply (VCC=5V). The I2S output pins are clearly labeled on the board:

  • VCC: +5V Power Supply
  • GND: Ground
  • DGND: Digital Ground
  • LRCK: Left/Right Clock
  • DATA: I2S Data
  • BICK: Bit Clock
  • MCLK: Master Clock (24.576M)

For analog audio input, use either the 3.5mm jack or the RCA (Red for Right, White for Left) connectors.

6. Operation

Once the module is correctly configured via jumpers and connected to power and audio sources, it will begin converting analog audio to I2S digital signals according to the selected mode.

  • Default Host Output: In its default configuration, the module operates in host output mode, automatically converting the incoming analog audio signal to a 24-bit 192kHz or 96kHz I2S signal for output.
  • Analog Input: Connect your analog audio source (e.g., a CD player, microphone pre-amp) to either the 3.5mm input jack or the RCA L/R inputs.
  • I2S Output: The converted I2S digital audio signal is available on the labeled header pins for connection to a compatible I2S receiver or digital audio processor.

7. Maintenance

  • Keep the module in a dry, dust-free environment.
  • Avoid exposing the module to extreme temperatures or humidity.
  • Do not attempt to disassemble the module beyond its intended jumper configurations.
  • Clean the board gently with a soft, dry cloth if necessary. Avoid using liquids or harsh chemicals.

8. Troubleshooting

  • No I2S Output:
    • Verify that the module is receiving proper 5V power.
    • Check all jumper settings to ensure they match the desired master/slave mode and sampling rate.
    • Ensure analog audio input is present and at an appropriate level.
    • Confirm all I2S output connections (LRCK, DATA, BICK, MCLK) are correct and secure.
  • Distorted Audio:
    • Check the input analog audio signal for clipping or excessive noise.
    • Ensure the receiving I2S device is configured for the correct bit depth and sampling rate output by the module.
    • Verify power supply stability.
  • Module Not Recognized:
    • This module does not require drivers. Ensure your I2S receiving device is correctly configured to accept the I2S stream.
