  3. Power On/Off: Press and hold the power button to turn the device on or off.
  4. Work Environment: Place the splicer on a stable, clean surface. The deep recessed windshield design allows for normal operation in strong winds up to 15m/s. Ensure adequate lighting; the splicer has high-brightness lights for working at night.

5. Operating Instructions

Follow these steps for successful fiber fusion splicing:

  1. Fiber Preparation:
    • Strip the fiber coating using appropriate fiber strippers.
    • Clean the bare fiber with an alcohol wipe.
    • Cleave the fiber using the fiber cleaver (e.g., JILONG KL-21F) to achieve a precise, clean end face. Ensure the cutting length is correct (8-16 mm for coating <250μm, 16mm for coating 250-1000μm).

  2. Placing Fibers in the Splicer:

Open the splicer's cover. The EX35 features a 3-in-1 universal holder that supports bare fiber, pigtail fiber, jump fiber, and flat fiber. Carefully place the prepared fibers into the V-grooves of the fiber holders.

  5. Tension Test (Optional):

Perform a tension test (standard 2N) if required by your application to ensure splice integrity.

6. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Regularly clean the V-grooves, objective lenses, and fiber holders to prevent dust and debris from affecting splicing performance. Use a lint-free cloth and optical cleaning solution.
  • Electrode Replacement: The electrodes have a service life of approximately 5000 times. Replace them when the splicer indicates or when splicing performance degrades. Refer to the detailed electrode replacement procedure in the full manual.
    Electrode life and discharge
Figure 9: The splicer's electrodes are designed for approximately 5000 discharges, ensuring stable splicing.
  • Battery Care: To prolong battery life, avoid fully discharging the battery frequently. Store the splicer and battery in a cool, dry place when not in use for extended periods.
  • Software Updates: The splicer supports software upgrades via its USB 2.0 interface using a U disk. Check the manufacturer's website for the latest firmware versions.

7. Troubleshooting

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
High Splicing LossDirty V-grooves or lenses, poor fiber cleave, worn electrodes, incorrect splicing parameters.Clean V-grooves and lenses. Re-cleave fiber. Replace electrodes. Adjust splicing program.
Splicer Fails to Power OnBattery discharged, faulty power adapter, battery not properly installed.Charge battery. Check power adapter connection. Reinstall battery.
Fiber Not Aligning ProperlyDirty V-grooves, damaged fiber holders, fiber not seated correctly.Clean V-grooves. Inspect fiber holders for damage. Ensure fiber is correctly placed.
Heating FailureHeating element malfunction, incorrect heating program, heat shrinkable sleeve not properly placed.Check heating program settings. Ensure sleeve is correctly positioned. Contact support if element is faulty.

For more complex issues, please refer to the comprehensive troubleshooting guide in the full user manual or contact customer support.

8. User Tips

  • Always ensure your fiber cleaver is clean and its blade is sharp for optimal cleave quality, which directly impacts splice loss.
  • When working in dusty environments, keep the splicer's cover closed as much as possible to protect the optical components.
  • Utilize the real-time automatic discharge correction feature for stable welding and consistent low loss.
  • Take advantage of the 200X fiber image magnification on the 3.5-inch color screen to visually inspect fiber end faces before splicing.
