5. Setup

5.1 Battery Installation

The DHR183 operates on an 18V Makita LXT Lithium-Ion battery (sold separately). Ensure the battery is fully charged before use.

  1. Align the battery pack with the battery housing on the tool.
  2. Slide the battery pack into the housing until it clicks into place.
  3. To remove, press the release button on the battery pack and slide it out.

5.2 Attaching the Side Handle

The side handle provides better control and reduces vibration during operation.

  1. Loosen the clamp on the side handle.

5.3 Installing the Depth Gauge

5.4 Installing SDS-Plus Drill Bits

The DHR183 features a one-touch sliding chuck for quick and easy bit changes.

  1. Clean the shank of the drill bit.
  2. Pull back the chuck sleeve and insert the drill bit into the chuck.
  3. Rotate the bit slightly until it engages with the locking mechanism.
  4. Release the chuck sleeve. The bit should be held securely but have a slight axial play, which is normal for SDS-Plus systems.
  5. To remove, pull back the chuck sleeve and pull the bit out.

  1. Align the DX16 unit with the mounting points on the DHR183.

6. Operation

6.2 Starting and Stopping the Tool

  • To start the tool, pull the trigger switch.
  • To stop the tool, release the trigger switch.

6.4 Anti-Vibration Technology (AVT)
