3. Setup Instructions

3.1 Mounting the Radio

The Anytone APOLLO I is designed for vehicle mounting. Ensure the radio is securely mounted in a location that does not obstruct driving visibility or airbag deployment. The aluminum body acts as a heatsink, so allow for adequate airflow around the unit.

3.2 Power Connection

  1. Connect the red wire from the radio's power cable to the positive (+) terminal of your vehicle's 13.2V power source.
  2. Connect the black wire to the negative (-) terminal or a suitable ground point on the vehicle chassis.
  3. Ensure connections are secure and properly insulated to prevent short circuits.

3.3 Antenna Connection

Connect a suitable CB antenna (UHF, SO-239 type) to the ANT connector on the rear of the radio. Ensure the antenna is properly tuned for the CB band to prevent damage to the radio and ensure optimal transmission/reception.

3.4 Microphone Connection

Plug the remote control microphone into the designated port on the front of the radio. Ensure it clicks into place securely.

4. Operating Instructions

4.1 Power On/Off

The radio can be powered on automatically with the vehicle's ignition or manually using the power button (if available and configured). Refer to the specific button on your remote microphone or radio unit.

4.2 Channel Selection

Use the UP/DN buttons on the remote microphone to navigate through the 40 available channels. The current channel will be displayed on the LCD.

4.3 Volume Control (VOL)

Adjust the audio output level using the VOL+ and VOL- buttons on the microphone. The current volume level will be indicated on the display.

4.4 Squelch Control (SQ/ASQ)

The Squelch function eliminates background noise when no signal is present. Use the SQ button to manually adjust the squelch level or activate Automatic Squelch Control (ASQ) for hands-free noise reduction. Adjust the squelch just enough to silence static, but not so high that it blocks weak signals.

4.5 Mode Selection (AM/FM)

The radio supports both AM and FM modulation modes. Use the A/F button to switch between AM and FM as required by your communication needs or local regulations.

4.6 Emergency Channels (EMG)

Press the EMG button to quickly access emergency channels CH9 (emergency) or CH19 (travel information).

4.7 Dual Watch and Scan

  • Dual Watch: Allows monitoring of two channels simultaneously. Consult the microphone's specific button for activation.
  • Full Scan: Scans all available channels for activity.

4.8 Memory Channels

The radio allows storing up to 4 memory channels for each regional norm. Refer to the microphone's controls for saving and recalling these channels.

4.9 Regional Norms

The APOLLO I supports various regional norms (EU, EUH, CE, UK, PL, E1, 12, DE, DEH). Ensure the correct norm is selected for your operating region to comply with local regulations regarding frequency and power output.

5. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the radio and microphone. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
  • Ventilation: Ensure the radio's aluminum body has adequate ventilation to dissipate heat, especially during prolonged use.
  • Connections: Periodically check all cable connections (power, antenna, microphone) for tightness and signs of wear.
  • Storage: When not in use for extended periods, store the radio in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.

6. Troubleshooting

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Radio does not power on.Loose power connection, blown fuse, vehicle power issue.Check power cable connections, inspect fuse in the power line, verify vehicle's 13.2V power supply.
No reception or poor signal.Antenna not connected, improperly tuned antenna, squelch set too high.Ensure antenna is securely connected. Check antenna SWR (Standing Wave Ratio) and tune if necessary. Lower the squelch level.
No transmission.Microphone not connected, PTT button faulty, antenna issue.Verify microphone connection. Test PTT button. Check antenna connection and SWR.
Distorted audio.Volume too high/low, external interference, faulty speaker.Adjust volume. Check for sources of electrical interference. If using an external speaker, check its connection.
