4. Setup Guide
4.1 Initial Inspection and Safety
Before connecting or disconnecting any external devices, ensure all volume controls on the E-22 are set to their minimum level to prevent sudden loud noises or damage to equipment.
4.2 Connecting the E-22
Refer to the diagrams below for proper connection of your devices.

- Microphones/Instruments: Connect your microphone to Input 1 or Input 2 (MIC/LINE). If using a high-impedance instrument like a guitar, use Input 2 and activate the HI-Z switch. For condenser microphones, ensure the +48V phantom power switch is turned ON after connecting the microphone.
- Headphones: Plug your headphones into the PHONES jack on the front panel.
- Monitor Speakers: Connect your monitor speakers to the MAIN OUTPUTS (1/L and 2/R) on the rear panel.
- Computer: Connect the E-22 to your computer using the provided USB cable via the PC interface.
4.3 Power Supply
The E-22 offers flexible power options:
- USB Power: When connected to a PC or compatible iOS device via the USB 2.0 port, the E-22 can be powered directly from the USB bus.
- External DC 5V Power: For situations where USB bus power is insufficient (e.g., with some iOS devices) or for standalone operation, connect a standard USB power adapter or an external USB mobile battery to the 5V DC port. Use the PC power supply/DC 5V IN changeover switch to select the appropriate power source.

4.4 Driver Installation
The XTUGA E-22 is designed for plug-and-play operation with most Windows and Mac systems, requiring no additional driver installation. If you have specific recording needs or encounter compatibility issues, you may choose to install the ASIO4ALL driver manually.
5. Operation
5.1 Controls Overview
Familiarize yourself with the controls on the front and rear panels (refer to Figures 4.1 and 4.2):
- GAIN1 / GAIN2: Adjust the input gain for Input 1 and Input 2 respectively.
- HI-Z Switch (Input 2): Engages high-impedance mode for instruments like electric guitars.
- +48V Switch: Activates phantom power for condenser microphones.
- PHONES: Controls the volume of the headphone output.
- MAIN: Controls the overall output volume to your monitor speakers.
- PC (REC) & MIC + PC Switch: Selects the input source for computer recording.
- DIRECT MONITOR Switch: Enables zero-latency monitoring of your input signal.
- Stereo/Mono Switch: Toggles between stereo and mono output for recording and monitoring.
5.2 Recording Modes (Stereo/Mono)
The E-22 allows you to switch between stereo and mono recording/monitoring modes:
- Stereo Monitoring: Press the Stereo/Mono switch to the 'Stereo' position. This will output the sound from channels 1 and 2 in stereo, reflecting the spatial positioning of different sound sources.
- Mono Monitoring: Press the Stereo/Mono switch to the 'Mono' position for a summed mono output.

5.3 Zero-Latency Monitoring
Activate the DIRECT MONITOR switch to hear your input signal directly through your headphones or monitor speakers without any processing delay from your computer. This is crucial for musicians to perform and record accurately.
5.4 Sampling Rate Selection (Windows Example)
To ensure optimal audio quality, verify and adjust your system's sampling rate settings:
- Step 1: Right-click the speaker icon in your system tray and select 'Open Sound settings'.
- Step 2: Navigate to the advanced sound settings or 'Troubleshoot sound problems' to access device properties.
- Step 3: In the 'Advanced' tab of your E-22's properties, select the desired default format, such as '24 bit, 192000 Hz (Studio Quality)'. Click 'OK' to apply.

6. Maintenance
- Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the exterior of the E-22. Avoid using abrasive cleaners or solvents.
- Storage: Store the device in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, extreme temperatures, and high humidity.
- Handling: Handle the E-22 with care. Avoid dropping it or subjecting it to strong impacts.
- Cables: Regularly check cables for damage. Replace frayed or damaged cables immediately to ensure optimal performance and safety.
7. Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| No sound output | Volume levels too low; incorrect connections; incorrect sampling rate. | Check PHONES and MAIN volume knobs. Verify all cables are securely connected. Ensure correct sampling rate is selected in your computer's sound settings. |
| Distorted audio | Input gain too high; faulty cable. | Reduce GAIN1/GAIN2 levels. Test with a different cable. |
| Condenser microphone not working | +48V phantom power not activated. | Ensure the +48V switch is in the ON position. |
| Device not recognized by computer | Loose USB connection; driver issue; insufficient power. | Reconnect the USB cable. Try a different USB port. If necessary, install ASIO4ALL. Ensure adequate power supply (try external 5V DC if using iOS). |
| No zero-latency monitoring | DIRECT MONITOR switch is OFF. | Engage the DIRECT MONITOR switch. |
