This diagram explains how the D:S ratio works, showing that at a distance of 50 inches (1270mm), the spot size is 1 inch (25.4mm). This high ratio allows for easy measurement of hard-to-reach targets.

6.3 Adjusting Emissivity

Emissivity (EMS) is a crucial setting for accurate infrared temperature measurement. Different materials have different emissivities. To adjust:

  1. Press the MODE button until 'EMS' appears on the display.
  2. Use the Up/Down selection keys to adjust the emissivity value between 0.10 and 1.0.
  3. Refer to the emissivity comparison table for common materials.

6.5 Setting High/Low Temperature Alarms

The thermometer can alert you when measured temperatures exceed or fall below set thresholds:

  1. Press the MODE button until 'HAL' (High Alarm Limit) or 'LAL' (Low Alarm Limit) appears.
  2. Use the Up/Down selection keys to set your desired alarm temperature.
  3. An audible and/or visual alarm will activate if the measured temperature crosses these limits.

  • High Temperatures: Be aware of the high temperatures you are measuring. Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) if necessary.
  • Flammable/Explosive Environments: This product is NOT explosion-proof. Do not use in flammable or explosive environments.
  • Electromagnetic Interference: Keep the device away from strong electromagnetic interference sources to ensure accurate readings.
  • Maintenance: Do not attempt to disassemble or modify the product yourself, as this will void the warranty and may cause damage or injury.
  • Battery Handling: Ensure correct battery polarity when replacing. Remove batteries if the device is not used for extended periods.

8. Maintenance

8.1 Cleaning

To clean the device, use a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents. Pay special attention to keeping the infrared lens clean for accurate measurements.

8.2 Battery Replacement

When the low battery indicator appears on the LCD, replace the 9V battery. Open the battery cover located on the handle, remove the old battery, and insert a new one, observing correct polarity.

8.3 Storage

Store the thermometer in its carrying case in a cool, dry place when not in use. Avoid extreme temperatures and high humidity.

9. Troubleshooting

  • Inaccurate Readings:
    • Check and adjust the emissivity setting for the material being measured.
    • Ensure the lens is clean and free from obstructions.
    • Verify the distance to the target is within the optimal D:S ratio.
    • Avoid strong electromagnetic interference.
  • No Display/Device Not Powering On:
    • Check the battery level and replace if necessary.
    • Ensure the battery is inserted with correct polarity.
  • Laser Not Working:
    • Check if the laser function is enabled via the dedicated button.
    • Ensure the battery has sufficient charge.

10. User Tips

  • For highly reflective surfaces, consider applying a piece of masking tape or flat black paint to the surface and measuring the temperature of the tape/paint. Remember to adjust emissivity accordingly.
  • Always allow the thermometer to stabilize to ambient temperature before taking critical measurements, especially when moving between environments with significant temperature differences.
  • The K-type thermocouple is ideal for measuring internal temperatures or for verifying surface temperatures where emissivity adjustments might be challenging.
