4. Package Contents

Your package should contain the following items:

  • 1 x YSIDO 3650/3660/3674 Series Brushless Sensorless Motor (specific model as ordered)
  • 1 x English Instruction Manual

5. Installation

  1. Mounting the Motor: Securely mount the motor to your RC vehicle's motor mount using appropriate M3 screws. Ensure the motor is aligned correctly with the pinion gear.
  2. Gear Mesh Adjustment: Adjust the gear mesh between the motor's pinion gear and the vehicle's spur gear. There should be a small amount of play (backlash) to prevent binding and excessive wear.
  3. Connecting to ESC: Connect the three motor wires to your Electronic Speed Controller (ESC). Since these are sensorless motors, the order of connection typically does not matter for initial setup, but if the motor spins in the wrong direction, swap any two of the three wires.
  4. Battery Connection: Connect your LiPo battery to the ESC, ensuring correct polarity. Refer to the ESC manual for specific battery connection instructions.
  5. Receiver Connection: Connect the ESC's signal wire to the throttle channel of your RC receiver.

Important: Always ensure all connections are secure and insulated to prevent short circuits. Refer to your ESC and vehicle manuals for detailed wiring diagrams and compatibility information.

6. Operation

  1. Initial ESC Calibration: Before first use, calibrate your ESC with your radio transmitter. Follow the instructions provided with your ESC.
  2. Power On Sequence: Turn on your radio transmitter first, then connect the battery to the ESC.
  3. Testing: Slowly apply throttle to test the motor's rotation and responsiveness. If the motor spins in the wrong direction, disconnect the battery, swap any two motor wires, and retest.
  4. Monitoring Temperature: During operation, especially during initial runs, monitor the motor and ESC temperatures. Excessive heat can damage components. If temperatures are too high, consider adjusting gearing or using a lower KV motor.

7. Maintenance

  • Regular Cleaning: After each use, especially in dusty or wet conditions, clean the motor to remove dirt, debris, and moisture. Use compressed air or a soft brush.
  • Shaft and Bearings: Periodically check the motor shaft for bends and the bearings for smooth operation. Replace worn bearings if necessary.
  • Wire and Connector Inspection: Inspect motor wires and connectors for any signs of damage, fraying, or corrosion. Repair or replace as needed.
  • Temperature Management: Avoid prolonged operation at high temperatures. If the motor consistently runs hot, investigate potential causes such as incorrect gearing, excessive load, or inadequate cooling.
  • Waterproof Care: While the motor is waterproof, it is good practice to dry it thoroughly after exposure to water to prevent corrosion of external components and connectors.

8. Troubleshooting

Problem Possible Cause Solution
Motor not spinning / No power Loose connections, dead battery, ESC not calibrated, faulty ESC/motor. Check all wire connections. Ensure battery is charged. Recalibrate ESC. Test with known good components.
Motor runs hot Over-gearing, excessive load, insufficient cooling, low battery voltage. Reduce pinion gear size or increase spur gear size. Reduce vehicle load. Ensure proper airflow. Use a fully charged battery.
Motor stutters or cogging Poor ESC timing, loose motor wires, low battery voltage, sensorless motor characteristics at low RPM. Adjust ESC timing. Check motor wire connections. Ensure battery is charged. Apply throttle smoothly.
Motor spins in wrong direction Incorrect motor wire connection. Swap any two of the three motor wires connected to the ESC.

9. User Tips

  • Match Components: Always ensure your motor's KV rating, battery voltage, and ESC current rating are compatible with each other and your vehicle's requirements.
  • Gearing is Key: Proper gearing is crucial for motor efficiency and temperature management. Experiment with different pinion/spur gear combinations to find the sweet spot for your setup and driving style.
  • Secure Wiring: Use heat shrink tubing or electrical tape to secure and insulate all wire connections to prevent accidental shorts or disconnections during aggressive driving.
  • Break-in Period: While brushless motors don't require a traditional break-in, it's good practice to run your new setup gently for the first few battery packs to ensure all components are functioning correctly and to identify any potential issues.
