4. Setup
4.1 Battery Installation
- Locate the battery compartment on the back of the meter.
- Open the battery cover.
- Insert 2 x 1.5V AAA batteries, ensuring correct polarity.
- Close the battery cover securely.
4.2 Initial Probe Activation
Before first use or after prolonged storage, the electrode needs to be activated to ensure accurate readings. Immerse the electrode in KCL storage solution for 12 hours. Ensure the instrument is hanging and the probe does not touch the cup wall or bottom during activation.
5. Operating Instructions
5.1 General Usage Steps
- Remove the protective cover from the probe by pulling it downwards.
- Rinse the pH probe with distilled water and gently wipe it dry with a clean tissue.
- Turn on the pH meter by pressing the ON/OFF/CAL button.
- Insert the spear-tip probe into the solid or semi-solid sample you wish to test. Ensure the probe is fully immersed in the sample.
- Wait for the reading on the LCD display to stabilize.
- Record the pH and temperature readings.
- After use, rinse the electrode with distilled water and gently wipe it dry.
- Close the protective cover upwards to protect the probe.

5.2 Specific Applications
- Meat: The pH of fresh meat should ideally be between 5.5 and 6.2 during storage.
- Cheese: The pH range for cheeses is typically from 5.1 to 5.9. If the pH is too low, the cheese may appear mushy; if too high, it may become too firm.
- Dough (Sourdough Breadmaking): The ideal pH of a well-mixed dough is about 5.0 to 6.0. After fermentation, the pH typically decreases to about 3.8 to 4.6.
- Fermenting Sauce: This pH meter is an essential tool for making all sauces, with a range of 0.00-14.00 pH and ±0.01 accuracy.
- Sausage Making: The pH of fermented sausages is usually between 4.5 and 5.5, depending on the degree of fermentation. Temperature control below 15°C is recommended.

6. Calibration
Regular calibration ensures the accuracy of your pH meter. The YY-2023-Q supports 2-point automatic calibration using pH 4.00 and pH 6.86 buffer solutions.
6.1 Calibration Steps (Priority: pH 6.86 then pH 4.00)
- Unscrew the caps on the bottles of pH 6.86 and pH 4.00 standard buffer solutions.
- Rinse the electrode with distilled water and gently wipe it dry.
- Turn on the pH Meter by pressing the ON/OFF/CAL button.
- Calibrate pH 6.86 first: Immerse the electrode in the pH 6.86 buffer solution.
- Wait for the value on the display to stabilize.
- Press the "CAL" button for 5 seconds. The screen will show "CAL" jumping.
- Once the value stabilizes around 6.86, press the "6.86" button. The calibration for pH 6.86 is now complete.
- Rinse the electrode with clean water and gently wipe it dry.
- Repeat steps 4-7 to calibrate pH 4.00, immersing the electrode in the pH 4.00 buffer solution and pressing the "4.00" button when stable.

7. Maintenance
7.1 Probe Life Extension
To effectively prevent the loss of reference solution from the electrode and prolong its lifespan, add the supplied KCL solution to the electrode cover, keeping the sponge moist. This helps maintain the original pH potential balance of the electrode, leading to more accurate measurements.
7.2 Electrode Maintenance for Prolonged Storage
If the pH meter has not been used for a long time, it is recommended to soak the electrode in KCL solution for 2 hours to reactivate it before use.
