  1. 3/8" Barb Fitting: Connects to 3/8 inch hoses on both inlet and outlet sides.
  2. 50 Mesh Screen: Fine stainless steel mesh for filtering out sediment and debris.
  3. Body O-Ring: Ensures a watertight seal between the clear housing and the black head.
  4. Clear Housing: Transparent bowl allowing visual inspection of accumulated debris.
  5. Black Head: Main body of the strainer with barb fittings and flow direction indicator.

4. Installation (Setup)

Follow these steps to properly install your water pump strainer:

  1. Identify Flow Direction: Locate the arrow on the black head of the strainer. This arrow indicates the direction of water flow. The strainer must be installed with the arrow pointing towards your water pump.
  2. Prepare Hoses: Ensure your 3/8 inch hoses are clean and free of debris.
  3. Connect Inlet Hose: Attach the hose coming from your water source (e.g., water tank) to the barb fitting on the side of the strainer where the arrow originates. Secure with a hose clamp if necessary (not included).
  4. Connect Outlet Hose: Attach the hose leading to your water pump to the barb fitting on the side of the strainer where the arrow points. Secure with a hose clamp if necessary.
  5. Check for Leaks: Once installed, turn on your water pump and carefully check all connections for any leaks. Tighten connections as needed.

The strainer is designed for in-line installation, typically between the water source and the pump's inlet.

5. Operation

Once installed, the water pump strainer operates continuously to filter water before it reaches your pump. Water flows through the 50 mesh stainless steel screen, trapping sediment and debris in the transparent housing. The transparent design allows for easy visual monitoring of the screen's condition and the amount of accumulated debris, indicating when cleaning is required.

This strainer is a practical solution for various applications, including sprayers, pressure washers, floor scrubbers, drinking water pre-filters, car washes, marine raw water filters, and vacuum pumps.

6. Maintenance

Regular cleaning of the strainer is crucial to maintain optimal water flow and protect your pump. The transparent housing makes it easy to determine when cleaning is needed.

  1. Turn Off Water Supply: Before performing any maintenance, ensure the water pump is turned off and the water supply to the strainer is shut off to prevent water flow.
  2. Disconnect Hoses (Optional): If necessary, disconnect the hoses from the barb fittings for easier access.
  3. Unscrew Housing: Simply unscrew the transparent container bowl from the black head of the strainer.
  4. Remove and Clean Screen: Carefully remove the 50 mesh stainless steel screen. Rinse the screen thoroughly under running water to remove all accumulated debris. You may use a soft brush if needed.
  5. Inspect O-Ring: Check the body O-ring for any signs of wear, cracks, or damage. Replace if necessary to ensure a proper seal.
  6. Clean Housing: Rinse the transparent housing to remove any sediment.
  7. Reassemble: Place the clean screen back into the black head, ensuring it sits correctly. Then, carefully screw the transparent housing back onto the black head, making sure the O-ring is properly seated to prevent leaks. Do not overtighten.
  8. Restore Water Supply: Reconnect hoses if they were removed, and turn on the water supply and pump. Check for leaks.

7. Troubleshooting

Most issues related to the strainer can be resolved with simple checks:

  • Reduced Water Flow:
    • Cause: Clogged filter screen.
    • Solution: Perform maintenance as described in Section 6 to clean the 50 mesh screen.
  • Leaks at Connections:
    • Cause: Loose hose connections or damaged O-ring.
    • Solution: Ensure hose clamps are tight on the barb fittings. If the leak is between the housing and the head, unscrew, inspect the O-ring for damage, and reassemble carefully, ensuring the O-ring is properly seated.
  • No Water Flow:
    • Cause: Severely clogged screen or incorrect installation.
    • Solution: Check the screen for extreme clogging and clean if necessary. Verify that the strainer is installed with the correct flow direction (arrow pointing towards the pump).
