3. Setup

3.1 Battery Installation

The VK750II typically uses 4 AA batteries (not included). Open the battery compartment cover, insert the batteries according to the polarity indicators, and close the cover securely.

3.2 Mounting the Flash to Your Camera

  1. Ensure both the camera and the flash are powered off.
  2. Slide the flash's hot shoe mount into your camera's hot shoe slot.
  3. Tighten the locking ring or lever on the flash to secure it firmly to the camera.

3.3 Initial Power-On

After mounting, power on your camera, then power on the VK750II speedlite using its ON/OFF switch. The LCD display will illuminate, indicating it's ready for use.

4. Operating Instructions

4.1 Flash Modes

The VK750II supports multiple flash modes for various shooting scenarios:

  • TTL (Through-The-Lens): Automatic flash exposure control, where the camera measures the light and sets the flash output.
  • M (Manual): Allows you to manually set the flash power output (e.g., 1/1 to 1/128).
  • Multi (Stroboscopic): Fires a series of rapid flashes during a single exposure to capture multiple movements of a subject.
  • S1 (Optical Slave Mode 1): The flash fires in response to another flash, ignoring the pre-flash.
  • S2 (Optical Slave Mode 2): The flash fires in response to another flash, but ignores the first pre-flash, suitable for TTL master flashes.

Use the 'MODE' button on the control panel to cycle through these modes.

4.2 Flash Head Rotation

The flash head offers flexible rotation for bouncing light and creative lighting effects:

  • Vertical Rotation Angle: 0-90 degrees (upwards).
  • Horizontal Rotation Angle: 0-270 degrees (left and right, ±180 degrees).

Gently adjust the flash head to the desired angle. Refer to the diagram below for visual guidance.

4.3 Zoom Function

The VK750II features a variable zoom head to match the focal length of your lens, optimizing light coverage. The zoom setting can be adjusted manually or automatically (if supported by the camera/flash communication). The current zoom setting is displayed on the LCD panel.

4.4 Exposure Compensation

Adjust the flash output to fine-tune exposure using the exposure compensation function, typically indicated by '±Ev' on the display. This allows you to make the flash brighter or darker relative to the camera's automatic exposure.

4.5 Sync Modes

The VK750II supports both front and rear curtain sync:

  • Front Curtain Sync: The flash fires immediately after the shutter opens.
  • Rear Curtain Sync: The flash fires just before the shutter closes, creating a light trail behind moving subjects.

5. Maintenance

5.1 Cleaning

  • Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the flash body.
  • For the flash tube and LCD screen, use a lens cleaning cloth and a small amount of lens cleaning solution if necessary.
  • Avoid using strong detergents or solvents.

5.2 Battery Care

  • Remove batteries when the flash is not in use for extended periods to prevent leakage.
  • Use high-quality alkaline or Ni-MH rechargeable batteries for optimal performance.

5.3 Storage

Store the speedlite in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Use a protective pouch or case to prevent scratches and damage.

6. Troubleshooting

6.1 Flash Not Firing

  • Check if the flash is securely mounted to the camera's hot shoe.
  • Ensure batteries are correctly installed and have sufficient charge.
  • Verify that the flash is powered on and in the correct mode (e.g., TTL or Manual).
  • Check camera settings to ensure external flash is enabled.

6.2 Incorrect Exposure

  • In TTL mode, check the flash exposure compensation settings on both the flash and the camera.
  • In Manual mode, adjust the flash power output (e.g., increase for brighter, decrease for darker).
  • Ensure the flash head zoom matches the lens focal length for optimal light coverage.

6.3 Slow Recycle Time

  • Replace old or low-charge batteries with fresh ones.
  • Using lower power settings (e.g., 1/4 power instead of 1/1) will result in faster recycle times.
