4. Setup and Installation

4.1 Component Overview

The module features:

  • SIM1 & SIM2 Slots: For Micro SIM cards. Note that dual SIM card functionality is related to the module and firmware; single SIM card is supported by default.
  • VBUS, DM, DP, GND: USB interface pins.
  • SPK+, SPK-, MIC+, MIC-: Audio interface pins for voice functionality.
  • UTX, URX: UART communication pins (3.3V TTL default).
  • POWR-K: Power key pin.
  • LED: Power and Network status indicator.
  • IPEX 1 Connector: For external antenna connection.

4.2 Power Supply

Connect a stable DC power supply within the 5-16V range to the appropriate power input pins on the board.

4.3 SIM Card Installation

Insert a Micro SIM card into the SIM1 slot. Ensure the card is correctly oriented as indicated on the board. If using dual SIM functionality, please contact customer service for details on module and firmware requirements.

4.4 Antenna Connection

Connect a compatible IPEX 1 antenna to the designated connector on the module for optimal signal reception.

4.5 Power-on Procedure

  1. The product defaults to automatic boot.
  2. For hardware developers requiring a POWRKEY power-on solution, please remove the material with bit number R6 and C26 on the PWK pin after receiving the goods.

5. Operation

5.1 Communication Interfaces

  • UART: Use the UTX and URX pins for serial communication with a microcontroller or other devices. The default voltage is 3.3V TTL.
  • USB: The module supports USB connectivity for data transfer and debugging.
  • Voice: Connect speakers and microphones to the SPK+/SPK- and MIC+/MIC- pins respectively for voice communication features.

  • No Power: Ensure the 5-16V DC power supply is correctly connected and providing sufficient current. Check for proper polarity.
  • No Network Connection: Verify that the SIM card is correctly inserted and active. Ensure the antenna is securely connected to the IPEX 1 port. Check network coverage in your area.
  • Communication Issues (UART/USB): Confirm correct wiring for UART (TX/RX) and USB data lines. Ensure baud rates and other serial parameters are correctly configured in your host device.
  • Module Not Responding: Try power cycling the module. If using a custom power-on solution, ensure the R6 and C26 components on the PWK pin are correctly removed as per the setup instructions.

  • Firmware Updates: Regularly check the manufacturer's website for the latest firmware updates to ensure optimal performance and access to new features.
  • Technical Documentation: Utilize the abundant reference materials, drivers, and STM code provided by SIMcom for easier integration and development.
