4. Setup

Pre-installation Notes

ATTENTION: When placing an order, please provide the matched motor parameters. This allows us to pre-adjust the controller for optimal performance before delivery.

  • For hub motors, specify the motor speed, polar number, motor size, and model.
  • For mid-drive motors, specify the motor power.

It is highly recommended to match the VOTOL controller with QSMOTOR products, as proper functionality with other brands may not be guaranteed.

Physical Installation

The controller should be mounted securely in a location that allows for adequate airflow for heat dissipation. Refer to the technical drawing for dimensions to ensure proper fitment.

The software interface allows you to adjust parameters such as voltage limits, current limits, RPM, Hall angle, and to enable or disable various functions like S mode, R mode, LIN, Temperature protection, Theft prevention, High Brake, Three Speed, CAN BUS, and P mode. Refer to the software manual for detailed instructions on each parameter and function.

After making any changes in the software, ensure you save the parameters to the controller and test the vehicle's operation in a safe environment.

6. Maintenance

The EM200-2sp controller features an IP67 waterproof rating, providing excellent protection against dust and water ingress. However, regular maintenance is still recommended to ensure longevity and optimal performance:

  • Regular Inspection: Periodically check all wiring connections for tightness and signs of wear or corrosion.
  • Cleaning: Keep the controller's exterior clean, especially the heat sink fins, to ensure efficient heat dissipation. Use a soft, dry cloth. Avoid using harsh chemicals or high-pressure water jets directly on the controller.
  • Environmental Protection: While waterproof, avoid prolonged submersion or exposure to extreme environmental conditions beyond its rating.
  • Software Updates: Check with SiAECOSYS/VOTOL for any available software or firmware updates that may improve performance or add new features.

7. Troubleshooting

Common Issues and Solutions

  • Motor Not Responding:
    - Check all power connections to the controller and motor.
    - Verify that the throttle is correctly connected and calibrated.
    - Ensure the E-lock function is not engaged.
    - Confirm motor parameters in the software match your motor's specifications.
  • Erratic Motor Behavior:
    - This could indicate incorrect Hall sensor wiring or configuration. Review the wiring diagram and software settings.
    - Check for loose or corroded connections in the wiring harness. The AMP connector is designed to minimize bad contacts, but issues can still occur.
  • Controller Overheating:
    - Ensure the controller is mounted in a location with adequate airflow.
    - Verify that the motor is not drawing excessive current due to incorrect parameters or a faulty motor.
    - Check the ambient temperature; operating in extremely hot conditions can affect performance.
  • Compatibility Issues with Non-QS Motors:
    - If using a motor from a brand other than QS Motor, extensive parameter testing and adjustment via the software may be required. Incompatibility may still occur.
  • Software Connection Problems:
    - Ensure the USB programmable cable is correctly connected to both the controller and your PC.
    - Verify that the correct drivers for the USB cable are installed on your computer.
    - Try a different USB port or restart your computer.

8. User Tips

  • Motor Parameter Matching: Always provide your motor's specific parameters (speed, polar number, size, model for hub motors; power for mid-drive motors) when ordering the controller. This allows for factory pre-adjustment, optimizing performance from the start.
  • Recommended Motor Pairing: For best results and compatibility, it is strongly recommended to pair VOTOL controllers with QS Motors.
  • Software Access: Obtain the software and manual download links from sales as soon as possible, even before receiving the controller, to familiarize yourself with the programming interface.
  • Bluetooth Module: The standard package includes a USB programmable cable. If Bluetooth connectivity is desired, a separate Bluetooth module may be required and should be sourced or inquired about separately, as it is not a standard inclusion.
