Shaving Technique
The Philips S8850/96 features a 360° omni-directional head with multi-track guide grooves and SkinIQ Dynamic Adaptive Technology to adjust cutting and shaving strength in real-time.
- Hold the shaver at a right angle to your skin.
- Move the shaver in slow, circular motions over your face.
- Apply gentle pressure. The SkinIQ technology senses your beard condition 250 times per second and adjusts the motor speed for an efficient shave without pulling.
- The honeycomb pentagon blade head flexibly conforms to any facial contour, easily fitting difficult-to-shave areas like the jaw and middle of the face.

Wet and Dry Shaving
This shaver supports both wet and dry shaving. You can use it for a quick dry shave or with foam/gel for a refreshing wet shave, even in the shower, thanks to its IPX7 waterproof design.
Using the Pop-Up Trimmer
The shaver includes an integrated pop-up trimmer for sideburns and beard styling. To activate, slide the trimmer switch upwards. After use, slide it back down to retract.
Maintenance
Cleaning the Shaver
The Philips S8850/96 is designed for easy cleaning with its whole-body washing capability (IPX7 waterproof).
- Quick Rinse: After each shave, open the shaver head with the one-touch pop-up design and rinse it thoroughly under running water.
- Deep Cleaning (with Cleaning Bin): For a more thorough clean, place the shaver in the cleaning bin with a fresh cleaning cartridge. The cleaning bin will automatically clean and lubricate the shaver heads.
Caution: When cleaning under running water, ensure the charging position is not exposed to water to prevent damage.

Blade Replacement
For optimal shaving performance, it is recommended to replace the cutter head (SH71) every 2 years.
Troubleshooting
- Shaver does not turn on: Ensure the shaver is fully charged. The shaver will not operate if it is completely discharged.
- Shaver does not turn on while charging: This is normal. For safety, the shaver is designed not to operate when connected to the charger. Disconnect the charging cable before use.
- Poor shaving performance:
- Ensure the shaver heads are clean.
- The shaver features an automatic grinding head. For first use, let the machine idle for 3-5 minutes to allow the blades to fully grind. Subsequent use will keep the blades sharp.
- When shaving wet, ensure the razor head moves in a straight line and circuitous movement against the face for best effect.
- Your skin and beard may need about 2 weeks to adapt to the new shaving system.
- Consider replacing the shaver heads if they are older than 2 years.
- Battery life is shorter than expected: Ensure the shaver is fully charged before each use. Over time, battery capacity may decrease.
