4. Setup and Installation
Follow these steps carefully to install your motherboard components.
4.1. CPU and Fan Installation
- Open the Nail Hook: Locate the CPU socket's retention arm (nail hook) and open it.
- Pull the Rod: Pull the rod to its fully open position.
- Remove Plastic Cover: Carefully remove the plastic protective cover from the CPU socket. Keep this cover for future use if the CPU is removed.
- Insert the CPU: Align the CPU with the socket, ensuring the triangular mark on the CPU matches the mark on the socket. Gently place the CPU into the socket without forcing it. Note that it must correspond to the CPU notch.
- Close the Rod: Gently press the tie rod against the bearing plate and close the tie rod.
- Hook the Pressure Rod: Secure the pressure rod with the hook on the side of the base.
- Install Fan (if not pre-installed): Before installing the fan, ensure that the four nails are properly installed. Align the mounting holes on the fan and mainboard. Press the fan down hard until the four nail hooks are jammed into the four holes on the motherboard.
- Secure Fan: Press down the four nail hooks to secure the fan. Flip the motherboard to determine if the four nail hooks have been inserted correctly.
- Connect Fan Power: Connect the power cable of the CPU fan to the CPU_FAN power port on the mainboard.
Important Notice:
- When installing a CPU, ensure that the CPU is in good condition and the mainboard pins are correct.
- As long as the CPU is not installed, put a plastic protective cover over the CPU slot to avoid damage to the slot.

4.2. Memory Installation
- Identify Memory Gap: There is only one gap in the center of the memory module. Ensure this aligns with the slot.
- Insert Memory Module: Insert the memory module vertically into the DIMM slot. Push it in until the gold finger of the memory module is fully inserted.
- Secure Memory: The plastic bayonet on both sides will automatically close when the memory module is correctly inserted.
- Verify Installation: Manually check whether the memory module is locked by the slot clip.
Note:
- If you insert the memory correctly, you will not see the goldfinger part.
- The motherboard supports dual-channel DDR3 memory at speeds of 1066/1333/1600/1866MHz, with a maximum capacity of 128GB.

6. Maintenance
To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your SOYO X79 motherboard, consider the following maintenance tips:
- Keep it Clean: Regularly clean dust from inside your computer case, especially around the CPU cooler, RAM slots, and PCIe slots. Use compressed air for best results.
- Ensure Proper Airflow: Make sure your computer case has adequate ventilation and that fans are operating correctly to prevent overheating.
- BIOS Updates: Check the official SOYO website periodically for BIOS updates. Updating the BIOS can improve stability, compatibility, and performance. Follow the instructions provided by SOYO carefully when performing a BIOS update.
- CMOS Battery: The CR2032 3V CMOS battery maintains BIOS settings. If your system starts losing time or BIOS settings reset frequently, replace the CMOS battery.
- Cable Management: Organize internal cables to improve airflow and prevent interference.
7. Troubleshooting
This section addresses common issues you might encounter with your motherboard.
7.1. No Power / No Display
- Check Power Connections: Ensure the 24-pin ATX power connector and the 8-pin ATX12V power connector are securely plugged into the motherboard.
- Verify Components: Re-seat the CPU, RAM modules, and graphics card (if applicable). Ensure all are properly installed.
- CMOS Reset: Try clearing the CMOS. This can usually be done by removing the CR2032 battery for a few minutes or by using the CLR_CMOS jumper (refer to the motherboard diagram for location).
- Test with Minimal Components: Disconnect all non-essential peripherals. Try booting with only the CPU, one RAM stick, and the graphics card (if no integrated graphics).
7.2. System Instability / Crashes
- Check RAM: Ensure RAM modules are correctly seated. Test each RAM stick individually if you suspect a faulty module.
- Overheating: Monitor CPU and chipset temperatures. Ensure CPU cooler is properly installed and fans are working. Clean dust if necessary.
- Power Supply: An insufficient or failing power supply can cause instability. Ensure your PSU meets the power requirements of all your components.
- BIOS Settings: Reset BIOS to optimized defaults if you've made changes that might be causing instability.
7.3. USB Devices Not Recognized
- Check Connections: Ensure front panel USB headers are correctly connected to the motherboard.
- Driver Installation: Install the latest chipset and USB drivers from the SOYO website.
- BIOS Settings: Check BIOS settings to ensure USB ports are enabled.
7.4. Audio Issues
- Check Connections: Ensure front panel audio header (F_AUDIO) is correctly connected. Verify speakers/headphones are properly plugged into the correct audio jacks.
- Driver Installation: Install the latest audio drivers from the SOYO website.
- BIOS Settings: Check BIOS settings to ensure integrated audio is enabled.
8. User Tips
- TPM 2.0 Module: The motherboard includes a TPM header. If you require TPM 2.0 functionality (e.g., for Windows 11), you will need to purchase a compatible TPM 2.0 module separately and install it onto the header. Refer to the motherboard diagram for the TPM header location.
- RAM Compatibility: While the included RAM is ECC DDR3, the motherboard's specifications indicate support for various DDR3 memory types. However, for optimal compatibility and stability, especially with Xeon processors, using ECC (Error-Correcting Code) DDR3 RAM is generally recommended. If you plan to use non-ECC DDR3 RAM, ensure it is compatible with the X79 chipset and LGA 2011 platform.
- M.2 NVME/NGFF Switching: The M.2 slot supports both NVME and NGFF (SATA) SSDs. There is a DIP switch to select between these modes. Ensure the switch is set correctly for your M.2 SSD type.
- Driver Installation: Always install the latest drivers for your chipset, LAN, and audio from the official SOYO website or the included driver disc to ensure full functionality and stability.
