5. Setup

  1. Prepare the Spray Gun

    • Attach the Container: Ensure the 1200ml paint container is securely screwed onto the spray gun body.
    • Select Nozzle: Choose the appropriate nozzle (1.0mm, 1.8mm, or 2.5mm) based on the viscosity of your paint. Refer to the image in Section 3 for guidance. Secure the nozzle with the union nut and air cap.
    • Install Battery (DC Model DKSG20K3Y): Insert the fully charged 1.5A battery into the battery slot at the base of the handle until it clicks into place.
  2. Prepare the Paint

    • Thinning: Most paints require thinning for optimal spraying. Use the included viscosity cup to test the paint's consistency. Follow the paint manufacturer's recommendations for thinning ratios.
    • Filtering: Always strain your paint using the included paint strainers to remove any lumps or debris that could clog the nozzle.
    • Fill Container: Pour the prepared paint into the 1200ml container, ensuring not to overfill.
  3. Adjust Spray Settings

    • Flow Control: Use the flow control knob (jog wheel) to adjust the paint output volume. Start with a lower setting and increase as needed.
    • Spray Pattern: Rotate the air cap to select your desired spray pattern: horizontal, vertical, or circular.

6. Operating Instructions

  1. Power On

    • AC Model (DKSG60K1): Plug the power cord into a suitable electrical outlet.
    • DC Model (DKSG20K3Y): Ensure the battery is securely installed.
  2. LED Light Operation

    • Press the LED light switch to turn the integrated light on or off. Adjust the lamp body and angle as needed for optimal visibility.
  3. Spraying Technique

    • Test Spray: Before spraying your actual project, always perform a test spray on a piece of scrap material to check the spray pattern and flow.
    • Distance: Hold the spray gun approximately 6-12 inches (15-30 cm) from the surface, depending on the desired coverage and paint type.
    • Movement: Move the spray gun in smooth, even strokes, overlapping each pass by about one-third. Avoid tilting the gun excessively, as this can affect the spray pattern and paint flow.
    • Trigger Control: Press the trigger fully to start spraying and release it at the end of each stroke.
  4. Power Off

    • AC Model (DKSG60K1): Unplug the power cord from the outlet.
    • DC Model (DKSG20K3Y): Remove the battery from the spray gun.

7. Maintenance

Proper cleaning and maintenance are crucial for the longevity and performance of your spray gun.

  1. Immediate Cleaning After Use

    • Empty Container: Pour any remaining paint back into its original container.
    • Rinse: Fill the container with an appropriate cleaning solution (water for latex paints, mineral spirits for oil-based paints). Spray the solution through the gun until it runs clear.
    • Disassemble: The gun is detachable for easy cleaning. Unscrew the container, remove the air cap, nozzle, and union nut.
    • Clean Components: Thoroughly clean all disassembled parts with the cleaning solution and the included cleaning needle and brush. Pay special attention to the nozzle and air cap to ensure no paint residue remains.
    • Wipe Down: Wipe the exterior of the spray gun body with a damp cloth. Do not immerse the motor unit.
    • Reassemble: Once all parts are clean and dry, reassemble the spray gun.
  2. Storage

    • Store the clean and dry spray gun and all accessories in the packing case in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.

8. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your DEKO HVLP Spray Gun, refer to the following common problems and solutions:

Problem Possible Cause Solution
No spray or weak spray
  • Nozzle clogged
  • Paint too thick
  • Flow control knob too low
  • Air cap blocked
  • Low battery (DC model)
  • Clean nozzle and air cap thoroughly.
  • Thin paint according to manufacturer's instructions.
  • Adjust flow control knob to a higher setting.
  • Charge or replace battery.
Inconsistent spray pattern
  • Nozzle or air cap partially clogged
  • Incorrect thinning
  • Uneven gun movement
  • Clean nozzle and air cap.
  • Adjust paint thinning.
  • Practice even spraying technique.
Paint dripping or spitting
  • Nozzle loose or damaged
  • Paint too thin
  • Gun held too close to surface
  • Tighten or replace nozzle.
  • Adjust paint thinning.
  • Increase spraying distance.
Motor runs but no paint sprays
  • Suction tube blocked or not immersed in paint
  • Air leaks
  • Check suction tube for blockages and ensure it's in the paint.
  • Ensure all connections are tight.

9. User Tips

  • Practice Makes Perfect: If you're new to spray painting, spend some time practicing on cardboard or scrap wood to get a feel for the gun's operation and achieve a consistent finish.
  • Proper Thinning is Key: The most common issue with spray guns is improper paint thinning. Always use the viscosity cup and follow paint manufacturer guidelines. If in doubt, start thinner and gradually increase viscosity.
  • Clean Immediately: Do not let paint dry in the gun. Clean all components thoroughly immediately after each use to prevent clogs and ensure smooth operation for your next project.
  • Battery Management (DC Model): For the DKSG20K3Y, ensure your battery is fully charged before starting a project to avoid interruptions. Consider having a spare battery for larger tasks.
  • Work in Sections: For large surfaces, divide your project into manageable sections. This helps maintain a wet edge and prevents overspray from drying unevenly.
