1. Introduction

The SMART SENSOR AS816 Digital Anemometer is a compact, high-precision instrument designed for measuring air flow and wind speed, along with environmental temperature. Its portable design allows for easy carrying and testing in various environments. It features a high-precision wind speed sensor, fast response, and stable performance across a temperature range of 0℃ to 50℃.

6. Setup

6.1 Battery Installation

The AS816 Digital Anemometer requires three (3) 1.5V AAA batteries (not included) for operation.

  1. Locate the battery compartment cover on the back of the device.
  2. Slide the cover downwards or in the direction indicated by an arrow to open it.
  3. Insert three AAA batteries, ensuring correct polarity (+ and - terminals match the markings inside the compartment).
  4. Close the battery compartment cover securely.

7. Operating Instructions

7.1 Power On/Off

  • Press the Switch button (power symbol) to turn the anemometer ON.
  • Press and hold the Switch button again to turn the anemometer OFF.
  • The device will automatically shut down after 14 minutes of no operation to conserve battery life.

7.2 Wind Speed Measurement

Once powered on, the device will immediately begin measuring wind speed. Ensure the impeller is exposed to the airflow you wish to measure.

  • The probe can be rotated 180 degrees to position the impeller correctly relative to the wind direction.
  • The current wind speed will be displayed on the main screen.

7.3 Unit Selection

  • Press the Unit button to cycle through the available wind speed units: m/s, Ft/min, Knots, km/h, Mph.
  • The selected unit will be displayed next to the wind speed reading.

7.4 Temperature Measurement and Unit Conversion

  • The ambient temperature will be displayed below the wind speed reading.
  • Press the °C/°F button to toggle between Celsius (°C) and Fahrenheit (°F) temperature units.

7.5 Measurement Modes (Max/Min/Average/Current)

  • Press the Mode button to cycle through different measurement modes.
  • Available modes typically include:
    • Current: Displays the real-time wind speed.
    • MAX: Displays the maximum wind speed recorded since the device was powered on or reset.
    • MIN: Displays the minimum wind speed recorded since the device was powered on or reset.
    • AVG (Average): Displays the average wind speed over a period.
  • Refer to the display indicators to identify the active mode.

7.6 Data Retention (HOLD Function)

  • While in a measurement mode, press the Mode button briefly to activate the Data Retention (HOLD) function. This will freeze the current reading on the display.
  • Press the Mode button again to exit the HOLD function and resume live measurement.

7.7 Backlight Control

  • To turn the backlight ON or OFF, press and hold the °C/°F button for approximately 2 seconds.
  • The backlight enhances visibility in dimly lit conditions.

8. Maintenance

8.1 Cleaning

  • Wipe the device with a soft, dry cloth.
  • Do not use abrasive cleaners, solvents, or strong chemicals, as these may damage the casing or display.
  • Keep the impeller free from dust and debris to ensure accurate readings. Use a soft brush or compressed air if necessary, being careful not to damage the blades.

8.2 Battery Replacement

  • When the low battery indicator appears on the display, replace all three AAA batteries promptly.
  • Follow the battery installation steps in Section 6.1.
  • Dispose of old batteries according to local regulations.

8.3 Storage

  • If storing the device for an extended period, remove the batteries to prevent leakage.
  • Store in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.

10. User Tips

  • For the most accurate wind speed readings, ensure the anemometer's impeller is facing directly into the wind source.
  • When measuring temperature, allow a few moments for the sensor to stabilize and reflect the ambient conditions accurately.
  • Utilize the Max/Min modes to capture peak gusts or lowest wind speeds over a measurement period, which can be useful for various applications.
  • The compact size makes it ideal for quick spot checks in hard-to-reach areas or for carrying in a toolkit.
