JW3116 Handheld Fiber Optical Light Source User Manual

Model: JW3116

1. Introduction

The Joinwit JW3116 Handheld Fiber Optical Light Source is a newly designed fiber optic tester engineered for fiber network installation, engineering acceptance, and maintenance. When used in conjunction with a compatible handheld optical power meter (such as the JW3216), it provides a quick and accurate testing solution for both Single-Mode (SM) and Multi-Mode (MM) fibers. The JW3116 supports 1 to 4 wavelengths, and its output power is adjustable to meet various testing requirements. This device is designed for ease of use, featuring a good appearance, comfortable handling, and user-friendly controls.

6. Maintenance

  • Cleaning Fiber End-Faces: Regularly clean the fiber end-faces of both the device ports and your fiber cables using the provided cotton swabs or other approved fiber cleaning tools. Contaminated end-faces can lead to inaccurate measurements and damage.
  • Battery Replacement: Replace batteries promptly when the low battery indicator appears on the display to ensure continuous and accurate operation.
  • Storage: Store the device within the specified storage temperature range (-25°C to +70°C) and in its soft carrying case to protect it from dust, moisture, and physical damage.
  • General Care: Avoid exposing the device to extreme temperatures, direct sunlight, or harsh chemicals. Do not attempt to disassemble the unit, as this may void the warranty.

7. Troubleshooting

  • Device Does Not Power On:
    • Check if the batteries are correctly installed and have sufficient charge.
    • If using the AC adapter, ensure it is properly connected to both the device and a working power outlet.
  • Inaccurate Readings:
    • Ensure all fiber connections are clean and free of dust or debris. Clean fiber end-faces if necessary.
    • Verify that the correct wavelength is selected on the device for the fiber being tested.
    • Check if the fiber cable itself is damaged.
  • No Light Output:
    • Confirm the device is powered on and the selected wavelength is active.
    • Ensure the fiber cable is securely connected to the output port.
    • Check the output power setting; it might be set to a very low value.
  • Display Issues:
    • If the backlight is too dim or bright, adjust it using the backlight control button.
    • If the display is blank or frozen, try turning the device off and on again.
