4.2 Test Leads
The BSIDE S7 multimeter features unibody test leads, meaning they are permanently attached to the device. Ensure the leads are not damaged before use.
5. Operating Instructions
5.1 Power On/Off
Press the Power Button (
) to turn the multimeter ON. Press and hold the Power Button to turn it OFF.
5.2 Mode Selection
The multimeter typically operates in AUTO mode, automatically detecting the measurement type. Use the SEL Button to cycle through specific functions if needed, such as V-Alert, Live Check, or other manual modes.
5.3 Measuring AC/DC Voltage
- Turn on the multimeter. It will usually default to AUTO mode.
- Connect the red test lead to the positive (+) side and the black test lead to the negative (-) side of the circuit or component you wish to measure.
- The display will show the voltage reading (AC or DC) and frequency (for AC).

Figure 5.1: Measuring AC voltage and frequency in an electrical panel. The display shows 'AUTO', '236.5V', and '50.0Hz'.

Figure 5.2: Measuring DC voltage of a 9V battery. The display shows 'DC', '9.5V', and temperature.
5.4 Measuring Resistance
- Turn on the multimeter and ensure it's in AUTO mode or Resistance mode (if manually selected).
- Ensure the circuit is de-energized before measuring resistance.
- Connect the test leads across the component whose resistance you want to measure.
- The display will show the resistance value in Ohms (Ω).
5.5 Non-Contact Voltage (NCV) Detection
- Press the SEL Button until the NCV mode is activated (indicated on the display).
- Move the top end of the multimeter close to the wire or outlet you want to test.
- The multimeter will beep and the display will show a changing bar graph (or 'Lo'/'Hi' for sensitivity) if AC voltage is detected.
5.6 Live Wire Check
- Press the SEL Button until the LIVE mode is activated.
- Touch the red test lead to the live wire.
- The display will show 'LIVE' and an alarm will sound if a live wire is detected.

Figure 5.3: Performing a live wire check. The display shows 'LIVE' and temperature, indicating a live circuit.
5.7 Continuity Test
- Turn on the multimeter and select Continuity mode (if not in AUTO).
- Ensure the circuit is de-energized.
- Connect the test leads across the component or wire.
- If the resistance is less than 30Ω, the beeper will sound, indicating continuity.
5.8 Data Hold Function
Press the HOLD Button to freeze the current reading on the display. Press it again to release the hold function.
5.9 Flashlight
Press the Flashlight Button (often integrated with the mode switch) to turn on the LED flashlight. Press it again to turn it off.
6. Maintenance
6.1 Cleaning
Wipe the multimeter casing with a damp cloth and mild detergent. Do not use abrasives or solvents. Ensure the device is completely dry before use.
6.2 Battery Care (S7-USB Charging Model)
To prolong the life of the built-in lithium battery:
- Avoid fully discharging the battery frequently.
- Charge the battery regularly, even if the multimeter is not in active use.
- Do not expose the device to extreme temperatures.
6.3 Test Lead Inspection
Regularly inspect the test leads for any signs of damage, such as cuts, cracks, or frayed insulation. Damaged leads can pose a safety hazard and should not be used.
7. Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Multimeter does not power on | Low or dead battery (S7-USB charging model) | Charge the multimeter using the USB cable. |
| Incorrect readings | Incorrect mode selected; Damaged test leads; External interference | Ensure correct mode (AUTO recommended); Inspect test leads for damage; Move away from strong electromagnetic fields. |
| Continuity test not beeping | Open circuit; Resistance too high | Ensure the circuit is complete; Check if the component's resistance is above 30Ω. |
| NCV/Live Check not detecting | No AC voltage present; Too far from source | Ensure the circuit is live; Bring the multimeter closer to the voltage source. |
